Hi all

This is driving me mad. I installed the new .chk file as directed in the in instructions for TTN ver 5.100 (5160). But the sound samples are exactly the same as previously. The file was installed onto the SD card in the TOMTOM sub-directory.

Any thoughts?

Needs to go in the Navigator folder in Program files.

Just a quick note to say I've added some new voice alerts to my site using a real voice much better quality than the computer generated ones I've already done.

Added the female alerts and voiceskin
Enjoy..............

Not sure if this is slightly off topic, but here goes !

Tried to install a new voice tonight on my HX4700 (TTN 5.1 installed), but with no success. Installed new files into \SD Card\VOICES. When I go into 'change voice' the new installed file does not appear. One thing I did notice was that the the voice file consisted of one .vif file and a .bmp file - I also tried changing the .bmp to a .chk but allas with no success.

Can anyone advise the newbie on this problem.

Many thanks.

Just a small point for the mods. In the palm forum when looking to download the spoken poi it shortcuts to this page
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-go-poi-alerts.php
which has info for build 2840 only.
The 1st page of this forum points to
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-poi-alerts.php
which covers the download for a few versions of palms navigator. Might be an idea to update the palm forum shortcut as there maybe others like me that initially thought there wasnt a download for their version.

For the palm how do you find out which build the software is. I have tt5 gb + europe and replaced the datachk file on sd with the palm version for tt5 but it just crashed everytime.

Hi there,

Great work with the speed camera database guys. I have downloaded the data.chk voice warning file for TT Go 300 but can't get it to work though.

I have App5.201 (5252/050628), so I downloaded the file at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/reviews/tomtom-go-poi/5252_new.data.chk.

I renamed my old data.chk file as a backup then uploaded the new file, but my TT Go 300 hung when I rebooted, and I had to reset it. I retried this process three times the same result.

I have managed to get the data.chk voice file working on my HP IPAQ using the relevant file by the way, so I have some idea of how it works.

Has anyone got the above Go 300 file working?

Are you sure you have 5.201, because using the wrong data.chk gives those symptoms.

What did you rename the old data.chk file? And did you name the new 5252 file to data.chk, using lower case?

Yep, checked it in the about screen.

I renamed the old file data.chk.original, but then thought that might be a problem so I took it off my Go 300 completely and stored it on my PC, but it didn't help.

I did rename the file to data.chk in lower case. I tried downloading the file again in case the first was corrupted, but no difference. Also tried resetting TT Go using switch underneath, all to no avail.

Any more ideas?

as if proof is ever needed that it's worth reading postings - if I had I would have found the answer.
On a Mio 168 with TT5 on the SD Card - the data.chk file on the SD card is the original - on running Tom Tom the first time it must be copied down and into Program files\Navigator. Swapping the data.chk on the SD card has no effect - it's the one in Program files\Navigator that has to be replaced then all the sounds change.
Very impressed with the camera database and the sounds.

If you are getting the correct Gatso 40 icon on the map, but not the correct warning sound, it means that the wrong alert has been set in the Warn When Near menus.

If you read Page 31 of this Thread you will see listed the Warnings that go with the TT warning sound names.
