** Please note that this database is not to help you speed in areas where you shouldn't, it's to help you lower your speed throughout all roads that you drive, and to be aware of potential areas where Safety Cameras may be in force for informational purposes only, so you can be more vigilant at monitoring your speed throughout these locations and ensure that you don't accidentally travel a few miles per hour above the speed limit like when travelling down a steep hill, or when you're overtaking another vehicle. We also do not guarantee that all fixed, mobile, truvelo or specs cameras are in the database, so please do not believe that this database contains the entire camera list as it doesn't, but this does support a vast majority of cameras you will see on our roads today. We also accept NO liability whatsoever for you receiving any speeding fines or points on your license through using this database or guarantee the accuracy of the data contained within this database either expressed or implied. |
Dont you find it strange that this chap's text is to the letter a perfect match for ours from the safety camera page which was authored back in 2002. Now I dont want to accuse anybody of copyright infringments. You make up you own minds... _________________ Mike Barrett |

Why do you assume that you are the only people able to create a speed camera location database ?
Haven't TOM TOM created one ?
So, if they have, what is there to stop other people from getting the information.
Ok stealing yours is not on but why assume that everyone is doing that.
So, my next question is has anyone else produced one ? |

Interesting question. The Guy responsible for the TomTom Plus data including the Speed Cameras still has not replied to our question of where their database was sourced. _________________ Mike Barrett |

So what are you going to do ?
On another note, I've just been digging around and you can request the position of every camera being used in your area from your local police force. So it looks like you can create your own. I wonder how long it would take ? |

You can indeed however that information may not help you to plot positions accurately.
From the Avon & Somerset Safety Camera partnership web site (which has maps and also photos of fixed sites) "These maps are meant to be a rough guide to the location of the site and may not always be 100% exact. Please also note that mobile sites could be along any stretch of given road and may not be where the camera icon is shown on the map."
I looked at the given locations for mobile sites that I know well, the maps are so vague as to be useless.
I suppose that under the Freedom of Information Act you could ask for the exact location but there are a number of exemptions from the Act so you can't guarantee be given the data. |

With regards to postcodes in post above. The TOMTOM postcode file is a single file that comes with the GB plus map. You can get postcode files for the UK in serveral formats single areas, also southern & northern areas and I've seen a full uk postcode file. The TOMTOM one is encrypted and you can even get the a postcode file from a company for the entire uk. That file just has postcodes and you would have to work out the co-ordinates yourself.
Don't be quick to judge people.
Howcome everyone is guilty until proved innocent in this forum ? |

The PostCode POI databases are Copyright of the author in the same way as our database is our copyright.
Persist in defending these leaches if you wish but you're alone if you think it is acceptable to profit from someone elses hard work.
We have reported a few hundred listings so far, all have been pulled and only two have claimed their data was not ours although interestingly one has failed to provide any evidence to support this claim and the other is being investigated now.
We're following the rules laid out by eBay for reporting fraudulent listings, if anyone believes they have been wronged then they can complain to eBay but unsurprisingly no-one has. Funny that. _________________ Darren Griffin |

For the same reason that some of us have spent a considerable number of hours creating other POI categories and putting them on a site and making them free to others only to find some thieving leaches are selling them on pirate bay as their own work. _________________ Graham.
