We went to V in Chelmsford yesterday, all very good, apart from getting out the car park....
I thought I'd be a smarty pants and wrote down the GPS location of the car in the field when we parked. Now on the way back, it did help a little, but when we finally found the car again, the exact GPS location numbers were different! And I was standing in the exact same location!
Also I was expecting the values to update more frequently than they did, we'd walk for a bit then realise once it updated that we'd gone too far in one direction again.
I thought the new TT GPS was supposed to be sensitive to within 50cm, have I got this wrong?
Anyhow, it took me back home a different route to a lot of the cars leaving so we avoided quite a bit of traffic, so I forgave it a bit then |

I think 50cm is being too optimistic,
I would have thought 10metres is more realistic,
But I've found mine can drift by 100metres or so, When stationary,
Are the American's still using SA?

Isn't there a setting on the gps receiver that makes it only update every tens of metres if in that mode (to smooth out the error in location), and another mode that continuously updates (because the SirfIII have smaller positional errors)? |

The GPS itself has nothing on it, apart from the power button, LEDs and charging socket, does anyone know how to change modes through TT, if you can? |

I thought you could access features from your PC via bluetooth and programs like SirfDemo |

The GPS manual consists of a pretty picture explaining the buttons, etc and that's about it! |

More responsive now,

Some of the SiRF receivers have "Static Navigation" enabled. This is the problem, and it can be fixed with SiRFDemo. _________________ Lutz

My TomTom MkII receiver had Static Navigation enabled,
Search the net for SiRFDemo and you should find it on a forum with some instructions for use,
WARNING:
Playing with the settings can make the receiver stop working,
Use caution when using the program,
I at one point thought I'd screwed my TT receiver up, but I'd just forgoten to change it back to NMEA mode,

Ah yes, it explains that under a certain speed, your position won't update within a certain range.
Annoying I can't switch it at will in the car though... |

No, it's an embedded option in the Sirf chip set,
Unless someone does a Phone version of Sirfdemo,
