eBay's Support? Now that's funny!! Sadly they don't offer the option of free zero cost listings, presumably because they still get income from listings that infringe copyright so it wouldn't be in their interest to work too hard to prevent it. _________________ Darren Griffin

Cannot agree more woth the comments. I bought my Tom Tom 500 last week and thought I would get the speed camera warnings. I looked on E bay and saw a multititude of offerings! I then found pocketgpsworld.com and downlodaed for free what I was being asked to pay for - including detialed instructions as to how to upload to my Tom Tom. Excellent and all worked well!
I am now keen to download the Spoken warnings alerts but see that the article does not include reference to Go Version 5.1 whereas mine is version 5.201. Will the 5.1 version work with this latest version?
Keep up the good work!
:D

Version 5.201 is supported, see the version supported table here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have filed a complaint against all those auctions with eBay.
Thanks |
No problem
I sent a few of them a question asking whether this was the free stuff off here (I got bored at about 5 or 6 down the list) - got one response
Quote: | Response from ds-yabe
Item: Speed Camera Downloads for Tom Tom GO inc new models (5798415352)
This message was sent while the listing was active.

This is what bothers me - They can get away with it and they know it.
Ebay is packed with people selling free downloads of this and that. The Speed Camera Database is just an example.
Also I was more than a little disappointed to find a retailer I respect (Globalpositioningsystems) for their service sending me a link to this site for a free Speed Camera Database download.
Organising a purchasing boycott of Globalpositioningsystems until the product is withdrawn (in whatever guise they try and sell it) would affect sales as a lot of people come here for buyng advice and a fair few of us are regular customers - I'm certain they would listen to this type of action - what does everyone else think? _________________ Thanks,

We're going to write to all the retailers we think are abusing the database service inviting them to apply for a licence. If they choose not to then they are in breach of our copyright and we'll make it very clear here who those retailers are.
We don't want to single any retailer out at the moment, we'll give them all fair opportunity to comply and if they don't then we'll let you know who they are here. That should be enough to 'persuade' them to toe the line! _________________ Darren Griffin |

I hope it is ok, but I have just provided a link to the front screen of this website on a forum I use. This is to encourage membership and also spread the word of the good work that you guys do in generating the database for all the different software out there.
If this is a problem please pm or email me and I will happily remove the link.
I have not hot linked to any part of the site only the main screen. |

its a pity you couldnt sell you database on a licence to the gps companys, tom tom, etc
i really think the time to give it away for free has to come to an end with maybe a free concession system for people who contribute information for the good of the database
in an ideal world it would be loverly for free
but a small levy of say 25p or a £1 is more than a bargain and it could be done as an online transaction |

Well TomTom went ahead with their own PLUS Service, quite how they managed to capture all that data so quickly I don't know, nor how they intend to keep it up to date.
If everyone (or a good proportion) donated either £10 per year or £1 per database release we would be able to pay for this site without any problem. We have had some donations (and a big thank you to those of you who donated, we do appreciate it) but it's less than 1% of the downloads _________________ Darren Griffin |

The site was www.fordmondeo.org - i'm pretty sure some of the members there are already members here but thought i would put a plug on for you!
I must admit, when I first got into sat nav I did think about doing the whole ebay thing and selling your database - but then I thought about it and realised it was unfair on you guys. |

how do we make donations? i for one would make a donation for the all the advice and speed camera database down loads I have received.
if it's paypal it will take me a while as I have to get someone else to use their account for me. |

At the moment it is just PayPal for ease and simplicity. The quick link is at the bottom left of each page and at the top of the Safety Camera pages.
Every little helps to pay for the 10Gb+ a day of bandwidth we consume! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Did you ever get an Answer from Tom Tom where their Saftey Cam database came from? I understood they were going to tell you. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

They claim to have employed a team of students as data collectors to collect the data. Make of that what you will. 6000+ locations in a few months. Possible I suppose at a push.
Of course there are other ways of getting your base data ;) _________________ Darren Griffin |
