Hello people,i'm a brandnewie to all this an' wasn't too sure if this was the correct category to post in so please bare with me an' accept my apologies for any ignorance i display unwittingly.
I've just bought an xda2i and a cpit-gps model no. gp-27. When i search for the device in bluetooth manager it finds it and connects but only for approx' 30 seconds, but the main problem seems to be when i try to set the com ports an pair the devices. in the litrature that accompanied the cpit-gps it states "set up outbound com port to be 8, yet this seems impossible to do!
When I then try to pair the devices i'm asked for a passkey which i enter, only to recieve the "Authentification Failed" with the details; waiting for device and authentification failed!!?
Please help as i've been attempting to rectify this problem now for five days and i intended to use the device as a gps for my trip to France which starts tomorrow
Hopefully

I have the same receiver and I got it to work OK following the instructions.

The fact that your PDA identifies the receiver during the pairing process would indicate that things are OK up to that point. Once the CPIT device is shown within the Bluetooth Manager, ensure you select it before hitting next.

When asked for the passkey it should be 6 zeros i.e. 000000. Enter these using the softkeyboard on the PDA before tapping OK. the two devices should then connect.

The Bluetooth port settings are hardwired within the PDA so you cannot change this. My IPAQ uses 5 and 8 but others vary. These are only important when your Navigation application on the PDA is trying to access the receiver.

My version of Tom Tom Nav 5 will not work if I set it to use Other Bluetooth GPS receiver. I have to select other NMEA wired receiver and then select Bluetooth port 8. If your PDA uses a different port just select the correct port number in the application. It does not matter if it does not state that it is a bluetooth port.

Hope this helps
