TTN5 installed on XDA1 memory, maps on sd card. Slected the NMEA GPS wired at 4800 baud and Serial Cable on Com 1. The disk in the top right corner spins for a while then stops.....then starts...then stops. At one point it span for ages but did not pick any sat signals. Disabled the accept incoming IRDa signal......No GPS Device still displayed. TTN5.1 installed
Thanks in anticipation of saving my marriage..car interior...XDA and any innocent folk passing me by!!!!!!

Hi Andy4407,
to the forum!
Have you tried configuring TTNav 5 with:
TomTom Cable GPS?
Also, whilst ensuring that your car is stationary, place your Leadtek 9531 on the roof when it's switched on and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes with a clear view of the sky.
Is the Leadtek 9531 working correctly, does it mange to get a fix on the satellites?

Some more specific details. Have tried the TT wired gps option. Disk spins but same lack of results. I do get the spinning disk at the same same as no gps device with both settings which my leadtek supplier says is somethng of a contracdiction. I have left this spinning for some time....maybe not 20-30 minutes and believe it or not with gps on the roof. GPS never finds any satellites. Will try all again for 30 minutes though but think I have done this before. Is the 30 minute thing a one off or if succesfull would one have to wait this long prior to each journey? |

Hi Andy4407,
I suggested leaving the GPS receive switched on and in a stationary location for up to 30 minutes so that there would be sufficient time to download the Almanac and Ephemeris (complete data), which requires about 12.5 minutes to download first time, so giving it 15-20 minutes should suffice in getting a full 3D fix unless you have an athermic UV coated windscreen or a bad view of the sky. If the GPS receiver is working OK and once the Almanac and Ephemeris have been downloaded then that process should be a one off and TTFF (time to first fix) should be less than one minute next time.
Whilst the GPS is on, do the LEDs change at all?
We need to make sure that the GPS receiver is working OK before we tackle the TTNav configuration.

Not sure if this is relevent, but on the XDA's older brother (xdaiis/Qtek9090), you have to turn of 'Recieve all incomming beams' (via settings / connections) since this ties up com1 (same as the wired GPS)
Could give this a try... |

Is there any sortware on the PDA for External keyboard, as within that application is an option to select IRdA/ Serial or Keyboard, if its set to Keyboard then your device will never see the com port (caught me out when I loaded the keyboard driver then set off in the car with no GPS for ten miles until I realised) - Cheers - Mike |

Thanks. No joy. XDA is 2nd hand so history is unknown. a good search shows no keyboard sw loaded and i have hard reset which I assume would delete any kb software. |

1) Spoke to tomtom today. V helpful and accessable. Agreed to reenable ttn3 to test the Leadtek9531 wired GPS device.
2) Handtec agree 9531 may be faulty and sending new one out - pre tested. Handtec mentioned that TTN5.1 is more stable than ttn3.
All in all i think I got a bit paranoid when I saw all the bad experiences that folk have genuinely had. I hope that by next week all will be working well |

All is well in the world. It was a faulty GPS unit. New one with 5.1 worked staight off with no problem........3 years and 3 versions on though i still get sent the wrong way up the one way street just round the corner !!!
Tom Tom were accesable and helpful. Handtec.com who supplied the gps were also helpful and accessible.
I thank you !! |
