Seems like this is a must have.
Official tomtom software update:
This is the new May 2005 tomtom software update - Not installed on many models.. This update is an official product from tomtom and is installed through the data cable onto your tomtom. It will give you new roads that have been built since your tomtom was purchased. This is a must to keep your self up to date.
Cheap at 2-99 Plus you get extras

I suppose that £2.99 is ok for celebrity voices - if you like that sort of thing!
But why pay for speed camera POIs when they can be downloaded for FREE from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php - and why pay for software updates when you can download them for free from TomTom's website. I have no idea where the bit about new roads come from. To get those - if they exist(!) - you'd need new maps - which definitely don't come for free with software updates. And even the latest maps are several years out of date in respect of new roads! _________________ Roger

Hi rkm_hm
Thanks for your input, I asked the seller a question and this was his answer.
These voices are not from voices skins i recorded some myself and some are collected from people who have done the same.
the tomtom 300 i recently had in stock didn't have the new section of a1 recenlty built in the north, but when i ran the update it was had update this section or road. |

Quote: | These are the very latest voices avaliable for the tomtom systems - Including such stars as... Sharron and Ozzie Osbourne, Jon Luke Pickard, Clint Eastwood, Star Wars (the dark side-guess who!) & Yoda, Ab Fab, Austin Powers (Groovy Driving Baby!) and more... These make and journey thoroughly enjoyable and great fun with friends |
These look suspiciously familiar - if you search on this site you'll get the Starwars ones for free - the others look too much like they are from a new commercial site selling celebrity voices so they may be pirate copies.
As for the Map updates - like rkm_hm said. They are just not released in this way. It's more likley this is a free update from the TT website.
And the Speed camera Database from this site is excellent AND free :D.
So I very much doubt you will get value for money even if you do get it for £3.
I very much doubt it will arrive on a TT SD card either.
Sadly it looks like somebody trying to make a quick buck on Ebay by dowloading free software and flogging it. _________________ Thanks,

Who's saying that - you (having bought it) or the seller?
Sounds highly unlikely to me! [Unless someone cleverer than me can explain the mechanics of this]. _________________ Roger

Hi rkm_hm
Sorry for confusion, I saw the Ebay advert and asked the seller if the voices were pirate copies. Also asked how the TomTom update could also update the maps and this was his reply to me.
These voices are not from voices skins i recorded some myself and some are collected from people who have done the same.
the tomtom 300 i recently had in stock didn't have the new section of a1 recenlty built in the north, but when i ran the update it was had update this section or road.
I am not quite daft enough to buy pirate software, or software that is free.

Seems like it's a selling ploy.
Same message on MyTomTomGo site.
http://www.mytomtomgo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=25068#25068
My contribution to the thread was:
Talking of the subject of 'New Roads Built Since TomTom Was Bought'.
I was out yesterday driving from London to Ely.
I've noticed a road that's in the TomTom map that is not even finished until 2006. That is a bypass being built around Baldock. From the A1(M) Jnc 9 it bypasses Baldock to the A505 instead of towards Baldock on the A6141, thru Baldock to the A505. TomTom map shows the Bypass and tries to route you that way if on your route.
Also I took a detour due to roadworks. There is a newly opened bypass around Fordham in Cambs that is not in TomTom's map database.
So from one extreme to the other.
Most of the new TTG 300, 500 & 700's have the latest TomTom maps anyway I would have thought. |

They do and they are only released annually - In May. _________________ Thanks,

As they are bundling our safety camera database I reported them to eBay.
They responded with a suitably ineloquent missive along the lines of 'get a life' from an email address belonging to www.gps-shop.co.uk who are a TomTom Dealer. (I see there is a thread on MyTomTomGO which confirms they are to be treated with suspicion).
Their email 'claims' the camera data originates from Quote: | a company called rono-cam - similar files but they are updated more ofted and are more accurate." |
Now, its not that I'm naturally suspicious, and being an ex-copper has no bearing on this ;) but I tend not to believe the claims of someone selling pirated voices and making false claims about the ability of a version update to magically add map data.
A search for this 'rono-cam' returns no matches, has anyone else heard of them? Strangely you would think that we would have heard mention of them before!! _________________ Darren Griffin
