I've resolved this via IM with the OP. My apologies for suggesting it was COM1 for the built-in GPS on the Mio168 when it is of course COM2 or Serial Cable on SP2. _________________ Darren Griffin |

You can ignore the internal GPS as if it was not there.
Use com1 if you use external cabled GPS. |
From what I understood from his post, he was suggesting that he was using that setting without any external gps connected, but using that setting for the built in receiver. |

you can use either setting on the mio 168 the tomtom gsp or the Other cable NMEA GPS but this one your must set to com 2 and band rate of 4800 were as the tom tom gps sets itself up

Yes, my mistake, I had tried that but got no signal at all, I then soft reset my Mio168 and tried again and it did work as you say, but I see no difference in the number of sat locks or speed to acquire the sats. |

Since having no end of problems with locking up and crashing I have ditched my Mio 168 and got a HP Ipaq rz 710 with external gps which appears to find sats quicker and signal appears stronger.
