The Safety Camera POI map for Garmin GPSRs has now been updated to incorporate the continental (European) data. It is based on v3.074 of the database.
It can be downloaded from:

Did you all know that you can now use POI loader from the Garmin website to use CSV files containing the speed camera database? |

Garmin's website seems to say that POILoader is compatible with the new SP2720, the Cxxx series and the Ixxx series. Are you saying it also works with other Garmins too?

Limited to the StreetPilot Series and the iQue M3 only!
Have you used it? |

Ok, I've just performed a test with my Streetpilot 2610. POILoader does notice the device is attached, but says it has 'insufficient capabilities'. It will let me save POIs onto a CF card, but when that card is used in the 2610 the POIs are not seen by the device at all.
According to the POILoader webpage (http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=927) this software is just for use with recently announced Garmins which have the proximity POI feature. These are the 2720, C320,330 and 340, streetpilot i2 and i3, and the iQue M3.

I downloaded the file and unzipped it but it doesnt seem to work on Windows XP. Was it done on NT? Keep getting an error message about DOS and Windows and the file autoexec.nt. |

Hi,
So what do we think the chances are that Garmin might update the Quest s/w to enable proximity POI and use of such software??? The capacity should be there, but is the will?????

No, it was created on XP, and the download has been tested on XP as well. However, I do recall someone else having this problem a few months ago. I don't know what the outcome was though, he went quiet after a while.
I've sent you a PM.

Many thanks again WiRED - great to see the expanding coverage.
The french database is that distributed by GPSpassion - I've downloaded lots of different waypoint databases from there but they're very messy on the Quest. There's a screen grab of something that looks like your overlay for France on the site but couldn't find where - must be the plus version (the pay for one). How easy is it to get waypoint (or ov2 files) formated to a transparent map??
Cheers,
Dunc
Keep up the good work - until Garmin give the Quest the power to handle POIs properly (if ever) your map is much valued. |

I think I've found what causes this. The version of InstallShield that installs the map makes use of the Windows 16-bit subsystem. If you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, this can remove a file Autoexec.nt from your Windows\System32 directory. This is what InstallShield is complaining about. The easiest fix is to restore this file from the Windows\Repair directory (just copy it back to Windows\System32). A full explanation of the problem and the fix can be found at http://unodocs.nmsu.edu/RoboDocs/WebHelp/jinitiator/ji_05.htm. I will shortly be adding a more detailed explanation to my webpage.

They will support POI Loader on the Quest 2 but not the Quest. See my post here for details:

Maybe you can put a note on your web site telling people to (politely) badger Garmin and ask for speed camera support for the Quest and older Street Pilots. _________________ Gone fishing! |
