Hi all. Been having a few issues with my Haicom MMF GPS (taking ages to get a lock) so thought id better have a backup. Great timing as all the new SIRF III chipset devices are on the market. I was going to go for the 338 but then found the Holux 236. Bought one from Globalpositioning systems.co.uk (arrived on time..they really are great to deal with and only £109.00!!)
Funny thing is, it got a lock within seconds of switching it on... I didnt even realise! I installed the GPSViewer utility, paired the 23 with my Ipaq 2210, changed baud rate to 38400 and hit scan on the GPWViewer app. No joy. Reset and tried again, still nothing. Thought id try Tomtom just in case and it worked straight away. Has anyone else had this? I still cant get it to find a port. It says cant open the port even if i set it to the same settings as TomTom uses successfully (without tomtom running) but I still get the cannot open port error. I can probably do wuthout the GPSViewer but I have read articles that it is used to switch on EGNOS which can improve accuracy?
As a matter of interest, 5 sat fix in my front room!! The Haicom gets none in the same position! I love this little unit and would recommend to anyone...also to buy from globalpositioningsystems.
Thanks for anyone that can lend a hand. |

HI, Just a post to say I have got the program to register thanks to a tech support reply from Globalpositioningsystems.co.uk. I still could not get the scan to function, but setting baud to 4800 instead of 38400 and COM port to 9 (TomTom uses 4800 and port 8) I can now use the GPSViewer program.
I have now been able to set the ticks against EGNOS and POwer save. This now brings another question, when i go into the program, the ticks are always off. Does this mean that whenever i leave GPSViewer EGNOS disables? or is it that it doesnt interrogate the GPS so a single application of the tick switches it on?
Thanks, Chris. |

Hmm, not sure why the smilie appeared. Just in case people were wondering, TomTom is set to 4800 baud with Com Port 8 confgured as opposed to GPSViewer which uses Com 9 and 4800. |
