If you are looking to buy GPS software, make your choice carefully.
Below is a list of devices that are claimed by TomTom to support Navigator 5. Not all do, or at least O2 have confirmed today that their XDA2i device is not compatible.

In an email tO2 said . . . "Unfortunately O2 currently do not support TT5 on the XDA 2i, and as you say, we have a new ROM update, but the Radio stack has not been touched which does not seem to resolve the below problem."

If you are in the market to purchase I suggest you read this forum thoroughly to make an informed choice, I can give you my opinion however . . .

1. TomToms product is excellent, arguably the best if it works.
2. TomToms support is absolutely terrible, It is difficult to obtain a phone number, Phone: +31 20 4469 469, Fax: +31 20 4469 496, (Address Spuistraat 112-114, 1012 VA Amsterdam, The Netherlands)) -But beware when you pick up the phone and it is unlikely that you will speak to anyone - it always refers you back to their web site. Their Email support takes an age
3. TT5 simply does not work on the XDA2i which means that the TT3, that works amazingly well on XDA2, is significantly out of date with its mapping data.

TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 – Bluetooth - Compatibility . . . (don't be fooled!)

Acer N30 , N50

Dell Axim X30 , Axim X3i , Axim X50 , Axim X50I , Axim X50V

HP iPAQ H1940 , iPAQ H2210 , iPAQ H2215 , iPAQ H3970 , iPAQ H4150 , iPAQ H4350 , iPAQ H5455 , iPAQ H5550 , iPAQ H5555 , iPAQ H6340 , IPAQ HX2110 , IPAQ HX2410 , IPAQ HX2750 , iPAQ HX4700 , iPAQ RX3715

Imate JAM , PDA2K

O2 XDA II , XDA IIi , XDA IIS

Orange SPV M1000 , SPV M2000 , SPV M500

PalmOne LifeDrive , Treo 650 , Tungsten T3 , Tungsten T5 , Zire 72

Qtek 2020 , 9090

T-Mobile MDA Compact , MDA II , MDA III

Vodafone VPA Compact , VPA III

I have invested a significant amount of time with TomTom's substandard customer support who insist that TT5 is compatible with the XDA2i - I would have been happy if they said, 'we are sorry that device is not supported'

And here's the best . . . You know that if you change your device you need to reset your traffic account right? Try rolling back from TT5.10 to TT3.07t? TomTom said "I'm afraid that you can not keep both Product Codes. If you keep the Upgrade we can not unblock your Navigator 3."

I hope this helps, I know that if I would of read this a month ago I would have save lots of time and aggrevation! Best of luck!

Can anyone suggest an alternative GPS package - that is better than TomTom?

Hi Alix,

Are you running the O2 Rom on your XDA2i? If you are running TT5, and not getting freezes and lockups whilst updating Traffic I am amazed.

I have updated the ROM, installed the corporate version, installed TT5.10 (fresh) and it still locks and with O2 telling me their device does not support TT5 I am amazed yours works!!

So whats the secret? How did you get it working?

You got a different ROM?? Your radio is a different version . . .

Its no good saying it works like a dream if you dont have an O2 ROM! Thats like complaining your Ford Fiesta on does 5 miles to the gallon but you've stuck a Ferrari engine in it!

Valid point but!!!.............before upgrading my device to a ferrari engine Laughing I did several configurations with the original o2 roms and each one worked very well including tt5 traffic over gprs...the only reason I have upgraded is the simple fact that i like to fiddle around with various set ups to gain a better knowledge of my device and its capabilities

TT5.1 works on my O2 XDA2i, never upgraded the ROM. BUT, Traffic does not work on mine either. Tried the 1 month trial and gave up on it. So it depends on the definition of how TT works for different people. Are all these people that say TT works, are they using Traffic?
I would post my XDA specs but it is away getting repaired.
How is this for irony, bought TT5 to help navigate me back from the French Alps to County Durham, some 900miles. Fell off my bike and smashed the screen so had to use the old fashioned method of paper and pencil.
But it did work fine with no lockups all the way there following my mate in a very warm car with no air-con, 900miles, approx 15hours of driving.

Is this directed at me, because looking at your earlier posts I haven't done anything different to you, Corporate install etc. But my impression was that your problem was getting traffic to work?

Sorry Tricky - was directed at Marky.

I need to know how he got his XDA2i to perform like that Ferrari! Mine is performing more like DelBoys Reliant!

first setup xda with original rom, sandisk 1gb sd, tt3 and traffic with o2 active installed "major lockups" uninstalled o2 active few lockups with traffic update
read about some probs with sd cards so bought kingston 1gb(which i'm using now)
second setup xda updated rom from o2, tt5.10 and traffic without o2 active no lockups!
i must point out though that i have some software on my device which has proved invaluable to the running of my device these are
SKTools v2.2.10 from handango (excellent buy)
SPB Pocket Plus v3 (another excellent buy)
the second setup worked great, i did over three thousand miles and not one single lockup even managed phone calls on bt headset whilst navigating in the car aswell as receiving traffic updates!
and now i'm on the setup you see at the bottom of my posts and thats had a 1800 mile test run without any lockups

Did you download the latest O2 Rom from O2's website? I get at least one lockup during my journey.

any advice would be great.
thanks

no tricks standard o2 launch rom no special software im doing over
2000 miles a week a only suffer around 2 locks a week
rang o2 data support this very moring to try and help they said there is problem with the wired version as there has been a change to the podution process of the 2i and this has affected the serial port at the bottom of the device i was told by o2 that tomtom are working on this issue to try and fix the problem which is why the wired version has been withdrawn temparlly.
they have no known issues with bt and tt5 this as far as i know only affects recent batches of the xda2i.
if you using bluetooth then tt5 should work hope this helps you
