I sent Navicore some questions and here are their answers:

I am seriously looking to change from TomTom and also to put the SatNav on my phone (Nokia 9500) instead of my PDA, But I have a few questions before I consider changing:

Can I create a GPS log of a journey?

No.

How easy is it to add POI's? Mainly can I use the UK Safety Camera POI's Do they need converting first?
Navicore wrote:
There is POI-editing tool for PC under development. It's very simple to edit POI's with it. But as i said it's not ready for consumers yet.

Does Navicore have a proximity warning for POI's? I don't want to keep looking at the screen for camera's,

Yes.

Why is the 9500/9300 version £50 more expensive?
Navicore wrote:
Because Navicore for Series 80 is totally different product.

Can i change the voice if I already have the WAV files?
Navicore wrote:
Yes.

Also I have been having problems finding an O2 store selling Navicore, Can I buy it direct or from somewhere else?

You can ask from Morgan Consultancy, william@morganconsultancy.com

Their site states the editor is now available. I'll dig out the link.

Sweet,

Wish Navicore released it earlier so I could have got Navicore instead of TomTom Mobile Sad (Which is turning out to be more trouble than worth),

I like how you can create masks for the images, TTM5 shows everything in squares, Sad

Knowing what I know now, I would have gone for Navicore, not TTM5,

Well, it will take some time to get personal navigation up to the standards we would like it to be :-)

The new poi tool does work with the safetycam database. You do get proximity alerts.

You can tell navicore how far away the alert should be triggered, and the safetycam database specifies the speed at which the alert should go off.

There are 2 minor drawback with the p910i version. I don't know if the same happens on other versions.

Firstly, you get the same sound when the proximity alert goes off. It doesn't seem possible to have a different sound for different pois, or for different types of the same poi.

Secondly, you get a visual warning too. However, this is displayed in kph, not mph.

Minor issues tho. In general the new poi tool works great.

Carl,

Carl, just wondering if you still feel the same? Has TT grown on you since you posted? I'm seesawing between TT5 and Navicore for my P910i and I really can't decide.

Cheers

I think if I had the choice again, I would be more drawn to Navicore if the prices were the same,

They about even on features,

But TomTom hasn't grown on me and the receiver is too finiky (Needs a firmware update),

Carl,

I've used both on a S60 Nokia 6260 and the Navicore is definitely easier/faster to use and also instructs you better. Even thoug first annoucments of a turn etc. are about the same. The actual instruction to do something feels better paced with the Navicore. On TomTom its easier to go past a turn.

My Navicore is such an early version, that I can't put in waypoints, but i expect to get the map/progranm uprgrade that comes out next january/february and that will take care of that. Crappy service to ship a product that is not ready, and not offer web upgrades.

I think I'm going to get TT5 but it was a close thing with Navicore. The company do seem to be dynamic and I'm sure would respond to tech hitches faster than TT.

Close to a decision! Rolling Eyes

Does anyone know how well Navicore works with a bluetooth car kit and handling incoming/outgoing calls whilst it's running , I'd like to know:

1) Does navigation continue uninterrupted when a call is made or received?

2) Does Navicore mute the voice instructions when a call is being made or received?

3) In cases where the bluetooth car kit mutes the radio/CD player does Navicore release the audio back to the radio/CD player in between voice instructions?

Just a couple of others:

4) Where on earth can you buy a standalone software version in UK, all I've seen are bundled versions with mobile phones and/or GPS Receiver

5) Is there an option to switch of map view and just have an enlarged 'arrows' view along with important information ... basically same as you can do in TomTom Mobile 5

it works as long as you get it connected in right order. this is a car kit issue at least with a nokia BT car kit. not a problem of the BT GPS kit.

Yes. down on the display you see the number or who is calling.

Not at least with my version, which is the old 1.0. Don't know whether later versions have this.

Still, never needed that. In my opinion Navicore paaces instructions better than TomTom Mobile

further to my answer above:

when you receive a call, the is continued to be shown. down on the display you get the number/name

if you call by headset/car kit voice command, same as above. to call by number pad of phone, you need to go to "out" of navicore, but not shut it down. after you have started the call you again go into navicore, back to the on-going navigation, which has been running all the time. after this the dispaly is as above.
