Try setting different Com ports until you find one which works.
I am assuming you have a wired GPS receiver. Select GPS. In the upper box select NMEA 0183v2 4800 from the drop down menu.
In the second box, experiment with each of the com ports until you find one which works. You need to put a tick in the box on the left to activate your choice.
For my wired receiver it's Com 1, but it may be different on your PDA

Hi, I have a very similar problem.... I just got an RZ1710 and Navigator 5 won't recognise the tomtom wired gps that i recieved when i originally ordered tom tom nav 2.
Wierd thing is tom tom 5 works fine with my old Pocket PC and only changed the unit coz a bunch of pixels died on my old screen.
if anyone can advise a solution i would really really appreciate it! |

I have the TT Navigation pack with 1710 and have had no problems at all with the device seeing the GPS. TT5 will say "no device" until it gets a fix. Gettign a fix may take many minutes if the receiver has not got an up-to-date ephemeris stored. |

Ensure that the Power is turned on and the light is green before plugging the iPaq in, then launch the TT App. Fixed the connection issues I was having. |

Thanks for the replies guys, unfortunately your suggestions didnt work.
Green light on everything, all plugged in correctly, tomtom wired gps selected in the configure option, left to gain signal for over an hr and still no gps device detected....... plugged knackered pda in and gps device detected immediately + gps signal recieved in 2 mins.
Com port cant be dead (i think) coz thats how i charge it and also link it to my desktop, which works fine.
For some reason the tom tom software is not recognising the connection on my new pda. GRRRRRR.
It prob wont work but should i try the upgrade to 5.1 or reinstall?
i'm just finding it odd that installing and hooking up everything on 2 devices exactly the same on 2 pda's results in only one functioning correctly! |

Do you use external keyboard by any chance, if so deselect the port settings back to IRdA/ serial from within the keyboard application - Mike |

I noticed that if you install the foldable keyboard update from the HP website, the GPS stops working.
If you've installed this, simply remove this and all should be fine. _________________ HP iPaq rz1710

Mike, Martin, cheers for the tips, but again this new pda is straight out of the box brand new (refurbished) and tom tom is the only program i've installed on it......
maybe i should buy a wireless gps and see if that works...
DOH! |

try some different port settings as wel as the Baud speed 4800 and 9600 are common speeds and if wrong the device won't see the GPS - its a bit of messing around but give it a shot - even try com2 you never know although I doubt that will work - Mke |

Hey people,
I've still not had any luck
I'm using an RZ1715 not an RZ1710........ could this be a problem?
Any other hints, or should i get rid of this unit and try and get another?
Cheers

Dunno if this might help,
When i choose 'other wired gps' and it comes to the option to choose where the gps is connected to i have these to choose from:
COM3
Native IR
S2410 COM1
SC2410 USB Cable
on my old packard bell pca which works with my wired gps these are the options:
Com3
USB Cable
Native IR
Serial Cable on SP2
Serial Cable on Com 1
Im not much of a techno buff but im guessing the Lack of a serial cable option on my RZ1715 is the problem..... I've read tuning off the IR beam option should make that option available but not for me
Any help MUCH APPRECIATED! |

Just a thought but could this be a re-numbered vs of the IPAQ-1910 device which never had a serial port and the only way of com to/ from the GPS was via a special Haicom mount - a mate of mine had one a while back - have a look at this to see if it looks anything like what you have, then double check what the device thinks it is Settings, System, Device Information, Identity - The model number should be listed on that screen. I only sugest this as it could be a 1910 delivered in a 1715 box - long shot but that would explain why the serial port doesn't work - mike |
