Version 2.1 - a response to feedback on 2.0/2.0.1 - is now available for free download from the usual web page:
http://www.freenetpages.co.uk/hp/barrydavies/osgps.htm
It includes:
:D Support for Destinator. It can create a Favorite Item from a latitude & longitude or an OS grid reference, which you can then navigate to or work with in Destinator
Smile New OS grid keyboards make it easier to enter OS grid references
Smile Minor TomTom tweaks - you can now edit the name given to each Itinerary point, and set the path to the map file either by browsing folders or typing the path into a text box (so now everyone should be able to do it!)
Smile Minor OziExplorer tweak - you can now select whether to run the Development or Standard program version
Embarassed I've also tidied up the settings dialogs, fixed an inconsistency in the name of one of the key entries used to store settings between uses in the registry, and fixed some obscure bugs such as being given OS grid references for some latitude & longitude positions in the Barents Sea...
If you're upgrading, just install the new .exe file over the existing one and then please check the settings dialogs the first time you use it. (In particular, depending on which sequence of versions you've run previously, the path to the TomTom map file may be lost.)
Good luck, and please post any observations in this thread.

Hi Barry,

GREAT piece of softwart that hits the dry spot!!

I'm using TomTom for street navigation.
After trying different freeware programs for geocaching on Pocket PC, I found your converter. And now I'm using only TomTom and your converter for caching - works great :D .

To minimize equipment needed, I tried converting to smartphone (Qtek 8020; I dont recomment that, btw). Here TomTom mobile 4 works (with the same maps as TT5, btw) , but OS GPS Converter 3.2.1 do not. Any plans on making a Microsoft Mobile version?

Thanks for the feedback. I only use a Pocket PC myself, so I've no plans to develop it for other platforms.

Hi Barry,

Great software! I was really sorry when the ability to navigate to coordinates disappeared from TomTom, but this one saved me.

Living in Denmark, I have no use of the British and Irish grid, do you have any plans to implement the UTM grid?

I have thought about adding UTM. This may be a future improvement, but I don't want to make any promises given current time constraints.

Just recently discovered this excellent program (thanks Barry !), TTN3's goto feature was useful but having to convert the coords was always a pain and now with TTN5 this program is a godsend.

One little bug I have found is in the display of the OS Grid Reference, the final digit can get a bit lost off the end. For example, convert N50.0 W5.0, on my screen (iPAQ 3970) the final 7 is chopped. Other SW numbers I've had on there lose the final digit completely.

Other than that trivial problem, it's marvellous.

Nice piece of work, well done. Mind the install instructions looked a bit daunting, but aren't at all. It took me a while to figure out how to confirm the map file directory......open keyboard tap enter,,duh!

Barry,

I am using the OS GPS as well and I realy love it's possibilities.
Great work.

I do have one problem with it and maybe you can explain it to me.
If I put in coördinates (BNG, format 4) and convert them to Tomtom or Ozi it gives me a point with different coordinates. This point is about 100meters of target.

For example:
In Ozi I look up coordinates N52 02.724 and E4 57.438. I put those into OS GPS and convert it to Ozi on my PDA. I points me to N52 02.783 and E4 57.160. This is also the position I get in Tomtom.

Can you tell me what I doing wrong or why this happens?

Thanx,

Rudy

I had not noticed the format 4 funny pointed out by Maita.

Using coordinates N52 02.724 and E4 57.438 OSGPS converts to N52.045400 E4.957300. In Destinator this shows as N52.045400 E4.952667.

If I enter N52.045400 E4.957300 in format 3, Destinator shows N52.045400 E4.957300 correctly.

I hope this is helpful to barryd when exploring the cause.

Hi Miata
When I do your test I get the correct position displayed in OziCE.
In my utility all lat/long positions are for the WGS84 datum. Do you have that selected as your datum in OziCE? You set it here:
File - Configuration - General Settings - Display Datum
If you're using lat/long positions in any other datum you will see an incorrect position in the way you describe.
Hope this helps

Hi Barry,

I made a small mistake in the coördinates I mentioned. It should be N52 02.724 and E4 57.138 and the ouput is N52 02.783 and E4 57.160.

I am using display datum WGS84.

I still have the same problem. I put in the first coordinates in OS GPS and get the position of the second coordinates. It's not only in OziCE, but also in Tomtom.

My PDA:
Orange M1000 / Qtek 2020
Bluetooth GPS
Leadtek 9537 GPS Receiver

GPS Gate
Ozi CE_Dev
OS GPS
Tomtom 5
Vito Navigator2
GPS tripper

Main use for this software is trips with Mazda Miata club Holland.
