The new 520 is in stock on MNC Group website. I’ve used the unit and to be honest it's as good as it's get for a cheap sat nav unit. I still do think Navman and TomTom have some catching up with Garmin on the POI's and processing power. People go on and on about postcode search but I would rather have better detailed mapping like Garmin. If you could bang all 3 Manufactures heads together maybe they would make what we all want. Probably Carlsberg should be making Sat Nav |

I notice on your website it shows "Free Upgarde from icn510" - what does that mean? I notice the price is higher than the 510, so you are not saying that you will supply the 520 for the same price. Did this graphic come from Navman themselves? If so, do we think this indicates a free software upgrade for us 510 users?

FWIW Navman have told me this is completely wrong. SmartST will be available as an upgrade later in the year, and will be the same version as on the 520 according to the person I spoke to. |

The Version with the Icn520 is smart ST2005
and the maps are version 3.5
(Currently V3 with ICN 510)
I was told that it wouldnt be launched for the icn 510
Until later in the year and be called Smart ST4
But then again...
The 520 seems very similar to the 510
Case is Satin Black, Exactly same Size shape
and all connectors etc in exactly same position.
Gps Antenna looks identical too.
The Unit comes with a 512Mb MMC Card
most of which is empty, however the card holds voice commands
in several languages, thisd seems the onle real reason for
the larger memory card.
However the 520 Software seems much slower than the 510
When typing in post codes and street names, the unit Pauses
for several seconds (Almost appearing to have crashed)
This may be down to Larger Memory card
or the software.
But the pause is Definetly a lot longer than my 510 with
a 256mmc Card
Postcode search is Same as 510 4 or 5 digit...
E.g NG1,5 Nottingham
or AB10 1 Aberdeen
Leaving last 2 digits out of postcode
There is Clear Facility on menu for
Multi-Stop Trips
Go to Replaces the "Destination" on 510
you are then Faced with options for
"Find area"
"Find Street"
"Find Postal code"
"Find point of interest"
"Change Country"
One Clear Advantage is there is a space bar present
on both the Alpha Keypad and Numeric Keypad input screens
On the 510 you had to switch back to the Alpha screen to find the space
when inputting numbers
Volume level is Exactly the same as 510
As is the actual Voice itself
Screen is Same Size and colours as are the maps appearance
Interestingly, there is a "Save" box at the bottom of each menu screen
which saves you returning all the way back to be asked
"do you want to save settings"
Apart from this, the units appear
identical |

Update on the "Speed of Search"
This is because the Software no longer splits
the Uk into Wales,Scotland and England
It is only split into the UK and Ireland
It does however mean you are nnot going to forget
to change between the 3 or have problems near borders |

..navman are aware of the slow search and are working on it, probably will be sorted with the first service pack. |

They do not appear to work on a 510
(Putting the memory card in a 510 results in the Map selection screen
Being highlighted in red and not letting you select them)
And it uses a 256 mb memory card
Am about to try Swapping the actual map data with data on 510 memory card.
Navman informed me they will be selling new Software for the 510
but not untill the new smart st V4 comes out in september |
But this software v4 will be Free for icn 510 registered users???I wish yes |

If anyone from Navman reads this thread, listen to your users and support us like we support you !! A free software upgrade for existing 510 users would cost you nothing and stregthen what is already a loyal group of users. _________________ Simon (srw-uk)

I'm sure that the v4 will have updated maps and therefore the update won't be free.
I hope for you, that I'm wrong... ;) _________________ GPSAndCo, french website dedicated to GPS |
