|
|
I was originally going to dump my Palm T3 and get a Garmin iQue M5. However, I really decided I wanted to have built-in WiFi and the ability to upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 when available. So I think I'll be going with a Dell Axim X50V, and either Garmin's cf Que or GPS 10. I see from Garmin's site that the cf Que is now a discontinued item? I'd prefer to have the compactflash GPS receiver, but I wonder if the software would be the same for both the cf Que and GPS 10? It looks as if the only difference is that the GPS 10 has the bluetooth GPS receiver, while the cf Que has the compact flash card GPS receiver - is this actually the case?
Thanks,
Ron |

I have both units. The 1620 software is married to the cf card only. The GPS 10 software will talk to any port on the PDA, serial, USB Host, even the cf card. If that hasn't been changed, the GPS 10 is the better buy. Also the GPS 10 is a better GPS than the cf1620.

As I understand it, the GPS10 mapping software is tied to the GPS10, but you can make the 10 talk to any port, yes. I've linked it to my iPAQ and laptop (via a dongle). _________________ Tim |

The software with each product will only work with a Garmin GPS unit but the GPS 10 is capable of working with any NMEA mapping software as well.

But the actual software (aside from GPS receiver specifics) between the 2 Garmin GPS units is the same, correct? |

Eh? With the GPS10 I got nRoute for PC and Que for iPAQ. I also got Garmin CitySelect maps, which works with both interfaces. As a bonus, Garmin allow you to unlock the maps for a second Garmin unit if you own that unit. I haven't yet unlocked the maps for my GPS V but that's only because I haven't got 'a round tuit' yet. I hope I've answered the question I think you were asking. _________________ Tim |

I meant to ask if the Garmin software for the cfQue and the GPS 10 is the same, with the exception of the GPS receiver specifics? It was mentioned above that the cfQue and GPS 10 software is tied to their specific Garmin GPS receivers, but otherwise is the software between the cfQue and GPS 10 the same? |

The mapping product included is the same. The PDA software appears identical except for the added interface tab with the GPS 10 version which allows using different Garmin GPS units with the PDA software.
