|
|
I'm wondering if there's any PPC GPS software besides Garmin, that has desktop software where maps, waypoint and *route* information can be downloaded to the PDA? Garmin comes close, but only allows maps and waypoint info to be downloaded - not the route information. Is there any alternatives out there that can do this?
Thanks for any info,
Ron |

OziExplorer does everything you've mentioned (and a lot more besides) on the PC and Pocket PC.

Barry - Thanks very much for the information. From briefly looking at the site, it seems I would need 2 applications - the PC and PDA versions of the software, is this correct? Also, will this software work with map data from either Garmin or TomTom? And once getting the OziExplorer software, would there be any need to continue to use (not uninstall) the Garmin or TomTom software? Thanks again! |

Yes, you need the PC app too in order to create your maps. It works with raster graphics, not proprietary map data files such as the TeleAtlas mapping used by TomTom. _________________ Barry Davies

For anything other than in car navigation I use Memory Map the ordinance survey, you can plan a route on the PC, and then export the map / route on to the PDA then go wandering around following route using GPS - it works very well, just a shame about the cost of the maps in the first place - I use 1:50,000 scale but where possible the 1:25,000 scale are much better for walking / cycling etc. - Mike |
