Hi Y'all
This is my first post. I have done a search to look through a few threads first.
I have an XDA2, & am looking to get a GPS receiver to be able to use with Tom Tom, mainly in the car.
I have been looking at various models.
There seems to be a few Solar powered ones about, but the reviews i've read in the reviews section has put me off a bit.
So, should i go for a bluetooth or an SD slot one.
Can anyone recommend a model for under £100. (well under, preferably. )
Oh & one last thing, i need to be able to buy it in the UK.
Many thanks & great Forum. :D
regards

use a wired gps unit, they plug into the port at the bottom of the unit, and supply power to charge it up at the same time (just deselect "receive all beams" in settings / connections) - I had massive trouble with a bluetooth gps with tt3 it works but not with a bt headset, with vs5 it works but disconnects the gps when call is terminated, the wired unit combined with bt headset is fine with tt vs5, expect to pay around 35 quid for a compatible wired gps off e-bay of 50 locally - just remember the beam settings and you should be ok - is it an i or s model you have got? cheers mike |

I got an original XDA II.
No S or i.
Thanks for all your replies peeps.
I'll check out a wired GPS Unit.
Got a feeling i will not be able to use it with my powered in car holder though.
Its a silver shield one. from pdamods.com.
Thanks

Hi, Equalizer
Like you, I use the XdaII - with TT3 (I have decided not to try to persuade my better half to let me upgrade for the moment, as there seem to be a number of teething troubles with TT5).
I use a Rikaline X7 Bluetooth GPS and a Jabra BT250 headset in the car and have no issues with satnav/phone compatibility whatsoever (other then the fact that the phone screen obviously appears on top of the nav screen when on a call - but a simple poke at the 'minimize' cross on the phone app sorts that). Both Bluetooth devices function perfectly together.
Re Mikealder's post above: Bluetooth problems? What Bluetooth problems? (I have downloaded the latest ROM update from the O2 website, by the way).
Cheers

ok the problems i have had are down to the XDAIIs it will not work with tt3 and bt headset - the gps is fine but consider the fact that it is a phone and that doesn't work correctly, with vs5 better success with headset but in the end going wired got it to work as i need - phone first, sat nav second - this was not an issolated issue as the 2nd xdaiis did the same thing - i tried it just in case - mike |

Thanks again for the advice peeps.
I think i may play safe & go for a wired one for now.
I just bought a Silver shield in car, powered Cradle off of Fleabay. Can you use a wired GPS unit with it ? ?
its this one http://www.pdamods.com/proddetail.asp?prod=A1SSSPKMNT&cat=23
Will any wired GPS work ok with it.
It appears to have a connection at the bottom, marked GPS. ? ?
Thanks again.

It should be OK to use with that mount, just make sure the GPS unit comes with a compatable connector, tell them (the supplier) which mount you have, if they get it wrong send it back, the mount will also power the GPS through the same connector so you don't need extra cable running fron the power socket - I use a similar system with my 4700, the XDA set-up I have is a simpler system but works fine - Mike |
