|
|
Hi there
I have been using TTN5 on my Mio168 for about a week now and on the whole I am pretty pleased with it, it seems to run ok, and there are some updated roads round my way from TTN3 which are correctly described/shown now which were not right before which is good news, BUT...boy oh boy does it not like quick direction changes!!!
It will be happily tracking me along a road, but then if I make a quick turn into a side road for example, or take an exit on a fairly tight roundabout, it takes it a good few seconds to acknowledge that i've done it and show my correct new position again which can be a right pain if it then decides that it needs to recalculate cos it thinks i'm not where it wanted me to be!
Up to now i've known where i've been when its got confused so I could just ignore it, but TTN3 did not seem to behave this way and was pretty good to be honest in the same situations.
Anyone else had this problem? Is it the TTN5 application thats wrong or is it more to do with the way it talks to the GPS? Is there anything that can be done now to improve this rather than waiting for an update from TomTom to come out?
Oh yes and I also have experienced the problem where it has a mad moment and one minute shows me as being here, there, and all over the place within a few hundred yards on the map before settling down again! All this whilst happily driving along a nice long straight road which should pose it no problems at all!
I really hope this gets fixed cos I actually think that on the whole the package is pretty damn good at what it does - its not perfect no - but then neither is much in this world, especially not software!! |

I'm having exactly the same on my Mio 168.
Bloody annoying - especially on roundabouts. |

have you tried disabling custom POIs (speed cams etc)?
It is a known problem that they can slow down the map refresh. |

Even if there's only one or two on the display?
Isn't this a fairly fairly fundamental error - iDo you know of a work around for this? |

Hi There Whitey30
I also use the same hardware/Software (MIO 168), and have exactly the same problems mainly on roundabouts.
I have complained to Tomtom and they have admitted that there are problems and are working on a fix!
Lets just hope it's soon as I think that this is a serious problem, as you say it is a pain.
Cheers Chris |

Yeah hopefully it will get sorted out pretty soon cos it'll be a major issue if they dont as it kinda renders it not very good at its job at the moment which is a real shame..
I have also noticed massive power drain issues compared to running TTN3 with my fully charged Mio running down much much quicker than it used to when running the older version which is another thing that hopefully they can do something about!
Come on TomTom get some patches out to us so that we can fully enojoy the product!! |

Glad it worked. The good news is that the custom POIs will still appear on the map if you have the POI alerts on for them. |

I have the same problem. TTN5 is slow to respond or gets easily lost with rapid changes of direction. I was advised in an earlier post to reformat my SD card. have not done this yet but will remove custom POI's as long as I still get warnings for speed cameras etc and see how it goes.

Removing custom? Does this mean unticking all POI categories or just telling it not to show?
same problem on Ipaq 4700 - position always a wee bit behind where I am and sometimes jumps onto other roads or changes direction when stationary. |

that was my interpretation. i have told TTN not to display any custom PII's but left speed camera warnings, etc in place. Not had time to test yet though.

On my 1710 all I have to do is "Hide POI". I can have as many ticks as I like, as long as none are displayed in the 3D view. Alerts work fine though. |
