I have just loaded TomTom5 onto my Acer N30 and tried to get it to recognise my BT GPS reciever on serial port 6 as identified in bluetooth manager. I am showing an active connection to the BT GPS slave. The receiver protocol is NIMEA 0183 V3.0 and it worked fine on TomTom3. Tomtom 5 still states 'no GPS receiver' when I try to configure it. Any help greatly appreciated.
How do I get TomTom5 to recognise the GPS device?

Try setting the receiver to be a wired gps receiver. Set the baud rate to the maximum and then choose the bluetooth port on the pda (com6). This should work

you will get "no gps device" is you don't have a sat fix - even if the gps device is paired and working ok.

try configuring it outside and hopefully the gps unit will find some sats and you be ok.

why they only have one message god alone knows - it can't be hard to say ""no gps fix when it has the gps unit attached but not locked on.

welcome to the barmy world of tomtom 5.

I have configured 4 Acer N30's in the last week. Mine and three others. My PDA is the only one that will work via 'Other Bluetooth GPS'. I have had to set the others to wired GPS and then select the com port of the bluetooth device (COM6).

I did find on one of the units that that the protocol had somehow been changed from NMEA to SIRF. I managed to find an app that check the GPS signal on the PDA outside of tomtom and corrected the protocol and hey presto, satellite signal received immediately.
