|
|
After eading some reviews on this site, I thought I'd buy TomTom Mobile for my Nokia 6600. Heres my setup:
- Nokia 6600 with 256mb memory card with TomTom Mobile 5 intalled
- A Polstar Bluetooth GPS receiver (bought from ebay).
Heres my problem:
The TomTom install went fine, I can access the program on my phone, so theres no problems there. My first problem comes withpairing the Bluetooth GPS reciever to the phone. It detected it, but kept on saying "unable to pair with Polstar". I eventually found that it would par when i restarted my phone, and everythime i wan't to pair the two together, I have to restart my phone.
The second part of the problem is that when I have eventually paired the reciever with the phone, the TomTom Mobile software won't detect the GPS signal. I go to "home" to try and set my home (and in the process find a GPS signal), and it can't find anything (I've left it going for a while to check that the receiver had warmed up, and I've tried it in a number of locations to check that the reciever was actually getting a GPS signal).
Anyone else had this problem or no how to solve it?
Any help much appreciated!!
Thanks a lot, Si. |

did you make thepolstar a "trusted device" in the phones' bluetooth settings
you goto bluetooth and on the second tab you have devices and you open a menu, and make it trusted.
Don't know if this helps, but try it |

As I said, the Nokia 6600 does detect the gps device, and can be paired with it eventually. This shows that the bluetooth is actually working (or it would not detect it at all). |

i'm not querying the bluetooth side, i'm querying the gps side of the receiver,
i tried a bt receiver with the 6600 and the gps was being detected in tomtom as bt paired ok, but for some strange reason the gps would only work if the gps receiver was switched off, remove the battery, then re-insert the battery and turn gps unit back on.
then and only then would tomtom recognise the gps as a receiver? |

I had the exact problem with my Altina GBT708 GPS. I tried testing the device on the 6600 with various types of GPS software. I also read many articles about renaming directories and assigning a short name to the blue tooth device none worked.
The one that looked the best option but failed for me was to :
1) goto the connect icon and open it from there choose bluetooth
2) use the thumb mouse to move left and show all the paired devices if its not already shown.
3) Use the same thumb to move to the line that is your GPS.
4) press the options button and choose "Assign short name"
5) type "TomTom Wireless GPS" or "TomTom Wireless GPS MKII"
6) Press OK button
7) choose options menu "Set Authorised".
Your GPS must be compatible for this to work mine was not I resorted to buying the latest TomTom GPS MKII which I must admit is fantastic with its new recognition system it even gets a GPS lock indoors. Which is pretty amazing
Good Luck
And let me know how you get on. |

tomtom mobile does its own connection, so pairing should not be needed, if the 6600 and bt gps are fully compatable |
