Well I just installed TT 2.07 GPS cab and you can run it up from settings and it works and proves the GPS is OK (my CF one) but it doesn't have any affect on TTN5 which loads it own 1.2 (or was it 1.02) driver and performs as badly as ever
Did I mention my Leadtek seems to work OK with TTN5 :D |

OK its been a while but my findings are:-
I installed the old GPS driver using the .CAB file that can be downloaded from Pocket GPS world. I then installed it over TTN5 which came up with an error about ttbtdev.dll or something like that which shouldnt affect me as it is to do with bluetooth. The rest of the installation then seemed to complete normally.
Since then I have been trialling the GPS sensitivity and TTFF and can conclude that it is still crap. I have since reverted to the equally crap TTN5 GPS driver but am extremely tempted to go back to TTN3 which worked perfectly for me.
The only thing that stops me is that there may be a patch in a day.... or two..... or a week..... or two???
I live in hope.
Conclusion: For me, upgrading to TTN5 is like putting my GPS in a lead box! _________________ TomTom Go 520, HTC Wildfire with CoPilot Live Premium UK & CoPilot Live Standard USA |

OK I was wrong on the length of the thread. But I am still amazed that you keep discussing this topic even though it is clear that the older GPS drivers have no impact whatsoever on TTN5. But hey, if it helps you, keep discussing. _________________ Lutz

I think it would be great if we can get the old GPS driver running again,
It's in the GPS driver of v3 that has the logging facility, the bit that is now missing from TTN5,

Lutz,
Yes, you were correct but its purely out of desperation that we keep trying new things!
If someone offers a ray of hope then it has to be explored. Hopefully through people sharing their views and attempts to solve these issues we will eventually get a solution that makes TTN5 useable for those of us that are still struggling.
If you hear of anything or know of a work around that we can have a go with please let us know. _________________ TomTom Go 520, HTC Wildfire with CoPilot Live Premium UK & CoPilot Live Standard USA |

If my crystal balls are right we will soon see a service release of TTN5. I doubt however that this will include any compatibility with the old GPS driver. _________________ Lutz

I don't think it will either. The two are completely different. The V2/3 driver was a standalone piece of software that did the communicating with your gps receiver. Navigator then talked to that program to get the data from it.
TT5 has it completely integrated. It will never work with the old driver so it's a waste of time trying, as Lutz pointed out some time ago. |

The two may be separate but if you have probems getting your receiver recognised with TT5 running TT3 2.06 will alow TT5 to "see" the receiver immidiately so obviously part of the TT5 driver is faulty.
Oddly enough I have to do this every time I soft reset my PDA (after using the advanced planning option without my bluetooth receiver on - for some reason doing this means that it no longer remembers the settings after a reset ...)

this is more going into the serial port communication. It is well possible that TTN5 tries to initialize the serial port and gets it wrong, and the older GPS drivers are more gently and get it right. This would also explain the longer startup/fix times in TTN5.
Let's hope the upcoming service release (5.01?) will fix that at least partially. _________________ Lutz
