I've just send a "Complaint" to Tom Tom regarding the out of date maps in TT5. I was mainly asking when the map updates would be available, but I also said that, after reading through a forum, Navteq have better maps etc and that "In order to be fair to your end users, I dont think the first major map update should be subscription based through the Plus service, but it should be supplied free of charge. Your end users may be more likely to purchase the Plus service if you offer this gesture of good will."
The official response from Tom Tom is as follows:
Dear Mr Brown,
Sorry but we disagree. Navteq also has map errors and omissions just as Tele Atlas might have but of course in different areas of GB.
TomTom has to pay royalty fees to the DIGITAL map provider for every map we sell and TomTom can not absorb this cost for thousands of customers across Europe. Most forums only list problems and you must weigh this against the thousands of users who are happy with the software and maps at present.
Management makes these policies so if you wish to make a complaint then you must do so in writing at this address:
TomTom
Rembrandtplein 35
1017 CT Amsterdam
The Netherlands
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team
To their credit, they did respond very quickly, although they are saying Navteq are just as bad and thousands of people are happy.
Just an update on my "Complaint" to Tom Tom. I asked them the following:
I see your point, but you never said when updates would be available.
Their response was:
Dear Mr Brown,
Tomtom is constantly exploring new avenues of providing our customers with the best service and products. Our management is researching very heavily into the possibility of having more freguent map updates but we do not know if this will occur this year or not. If so, then we will put this information on our website in the months to come.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team
Sooooo, that says to me, don't hold your breath on map updates, this could take months (Or even next year).
