POI BMP format

Is there a special format a POI BMP file should follow?

I've created some but TomTom Nav doesn't display them.

No there's no special format, you should be able to edit the .BMP files using MS Paint.



The .BMP files should be no bigger than 22 by 22 pixels and exactly the same name as the .OV2 file. The .BMP file should be in the same folder as the .OV2 file and map data.



It's also a good idea to fully shut down TTNav and then restart it when you put in new POI files (.OV2 and .BMP) else TTNav won't recognise them.

Hi fysmd,



Here's a tip for creating POI .BMP files:



Set the canvas size at 22 by 22 pixels and then use the options in the View menu to zoom into the image by 800%.



Then using the options in the same menu, select 'Show grid' which should make designing icons a lot easier.

Thanks, I'd already done these things but I wondered if there is a palette issue?

My BMP's do show up, but I've found that colour selection is a bit limited (Black, blue and beige) and any other colour selected reverts to one of the above. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

When you save them, be sure to save as "256 Colour Bitmap".

I had this problem yesterday when I was trying to change the standard POI .bmp file (a yellow square with a black asterisk) to one of my own designs.



Go to the Image menu and make sure 'Draw Opaque' is NOT ticked.



This should solve your problem.

Late query on this I know, but I was trying to edit the SC camera bitmap (basically change white to yellow)but I find I cannot colour the bitmap image! I have looked everywhere and am stumped on this one, and I use PS7 everyday!!!! The bitmap world is new to me, give me a raw file anyday!



I know it must be something simple, apart from me!



Any ideas....Bo Peep, Pello, Privateer?

You'll need to start by converting the bitmap to 8 bit paletted - at the moment it's 1 bit (black and white). You can't have colours in a 1 bit image!



I know how to do this in Corel Photo Paint 10 (which is what I use regularly) - but not PhotoShop.
