|
|
Hi all,
waitng for my new tomtom go 300 to come and on reading up on them it seems that if I wish to put more information on (say speed cameras) I will need a bigger card.
I have seen them on ebay fully loaded at about £40 !!,
what I would like to know is, can I use a blank sd memory card and load all my new software on from my tomtom and add the speed camera bit.
also can you tell me which cards fit as I have seen a TOSHIBA 512MB SD CARD part # SD-M5125R2W on ebay for about £15 would this be ok.
Thanks

If all you want to do is add the speed camers POIs then they will fit on the original SD card.
I wouldn't bother with the cards from Ebay, you can download the speed camera POIs and spoken warnings FREE from this site.
If you do want a bigger SD card have a look at this

Kingston 512Mb card just over £20 including delivery and they come with a lifetime guarantee. |

Thanks PJ,
If the speed camera will fit on the card, why do people fit bigger cards, because at £20 I may as well get one now so if I need more space later on I have it.
also Is it simple to put the information on a new card !!
Thanks Ned |

Ned
I only bought a bigger SD card as I bought the map of France so rather than switch cards it was easier to have everything on one card.
It's easy to transfer everything to a new SD card. When you get the TTG make a back up copy of the SD card to your computer before you do anything else (very important in case anything goes wrong at a later date) Then you just put the new card in the TTG, format it, then transfer the copy you made onto the new SD card.
When you make a Back up copy of your SD card, don't rely on the back up facility on the setup CD, create a new folder then copy/paste everything across |

A new bigger card is easy.
Connect GO to PC with USB
Open GO as "removable Drive" in My Computer. (or it may mount on the desktop automatically on some systems).
Make a backup folder on the PC.
Select all the files in the GO window and drag them to the backup folder.
Wait for blue card on GO screen to stop flashing. (about 5 mins or so)
Put new card in GO.
Drag all the files from the backup folder to the GO window.
Wait for blue card to stop flashing (another 5 mins or so)
Eject GO from drive menu.
Wait for GO to restart.
Job done. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Hi
For what its worth I have recently been through the same exercise as you.
I obtained a new Toshiba 512 card from BuzzMemory located in HongKong by bidding on ebay. Whilst the card can be bid for about £14 the P&P and insurance is another £11. The delivery was superb (4 days) - check out the ebay reports. The card was good, genuine japanese stock.
The downloads to the card were relatively easy, and I was really grateful for the support of members of this forum, the extra capacity is worthwhile to allow for future contingencies.
The other advice to follow the link to the UK supplier, as above posting , is a great idea because users of this forum apparently get a discount.
Hope you have as much fun as I did today, "navigating" around and about.
Cheers

I pondered the idea of buying a 512mb but I won't need one yet, so bought a Kingston 256mb Pro High Speed from epcbuyer for £18.88 incl VAT and delivery...not bad for card that can read at 10mbps |
