|
|
Apologies if this is a stupid one but I have only had it for a day.
It has been working OK all day but when I did a test run this evening the voice directions worked OK but the map froze on the first waypoint.
I have switched off/on etc... but no joy.
I have software v5.20
Is this a software bug or windscreen problem?
Please help |

Several users have reported freezing. This has been mainly due to overfilling the SD card with extra POI's.
Can you turn it off, or do you have to do a Reset?
Does it just lose a satellite fix? _________________ Richard

I couldnt really log all the symptoms as I was driving and my sister had no clue but I was able topull over and switch it off and then back on again.
Unfortunately this didnt rectify it.
On the SD Card I only have the UK map and the speed camera POI's, on the standard out of the box card. (128 MB)
Another thing I did notice was whilst it was in the car I had trouble running it from the fag lighter as the contacts were not always 100% in contact and it kept powering down. Eventually I had to just run it from the battery.
I think I will have to take it out again for another long test run? |

I have just took it out again and it is still freezing up.
Here is how my journey just went:
Going to target destination it worked OK. My return journey, when I set off the voice directions were spot on but when I looked at the map it was still back where I set off.
I switched it off then back on again but then I had a mix of two screens on one. I selected the first menu, chose another route but when it was meant to return to the map menu I was left with the top half being the selection menu and the bottom half being the directional data.
Has my upgrade to the newer version corrupted my software? If I reset wont I lose the upgrade and my speed camera data?
Cheers for any advice |

I have this problem too. My problem is just a bad lighter tho my phone charger wont work at all.
When I get round to it I am going to hardwire a lighter splitter to the car. this should sort it out. Will neaten things up too. |

I just got fed up with it and went for the reset button.
I didnt lose my data and to be honest I didnt see too much evidence of a reset. I will do another test run to see if it worked.
I have read thru the lame instructions but didnt see a reference to the RESET button, what does it do? |

Well the reset didnt work either
What the hell is going on with this. Once again it has worked for one trip but when I select another route I get a mix and match of 2 different screens.
Next step, I am taking the device back to the older version software to see if that helps. System restore here I go.
So far I am not impressed, but I will give it a chance because the voice directions are spot on.
Wish me luck.
PS: Jim Bob - How did you sort yours out? Or is it still buggy? |

I had this problem a few weeks ago with exactly the same symptoms, the screen froze and had a split screen (this was well before the latest upgrade). The funny thing was that when I switched off the map display the symbols worked ok and the voice instructions worked. In the end I reformatted the card and copied back the files from my computer. I also wiped the contacts on the SD card with a microfibre cloth in case the contacts were dirty or greasy.
I haven't had a problem since. |

How did you format the card.
I am having a lot of trouble refreshing the data on the card. It keeps on freezing up on the copying of files.
I am using the TT as a reader/writer. Do I need a seperate unit? |

I use a card reader connected to my computer as it is a lot quicker than using the Tom Tom connected to the conputer. You just highlight the drive where the Tom Tom is, right click it and choose "format" from the drop down list. Make sure that you have a backup of the files though.
To start with I would first try cleaning the terminals on the SD card as it might be a problem of the Tom Tom not being able to access the map data on the card. |

Cheers for the tips StanStill
I took it and went to Curry's and bought a 8 in 1 card reader so now I have the power back, at last
I also went the extra mile and bought another SD card (256 MB) because I know I am going to need it in the end.
Well I have formatted both and then gone to my backup copy of the original data (Thanks to this forum for that top tip) and copied the good files to both cards.
I have left one as is and put the upgraded software and speed camera bits on the other.
I will now take another trip out to see where the bug is hiding. Or maybe the format, like you said, was the cure?
I will post back here with the results. God I hope I finally get somewhere with this as I really like this product. Fingers crossed x |
