|

Hello there. I just got a Garmin E-Trek, and I tried the garmin Worldmap , but unfortunately it has very little detail for western Turkey.
I was wondering if there was a better option out there.
I am willing to scan maps and add them myself to the GPS,
but I don't know what software could be used for such a task.
I would appreciate any assistance.
Regards,
-turgut |

I use memory map on my pda with bt gps. You can scan your maps into pc then calibrate and use on pda. Excellent system saved me being lost for hours in bali. |

Thank you very much!
I will look into memory Map.. Can you upload memory map-generated maps to a Garmin e-trek?
Thanks, -t |

I think that memory map calibrated scans can only be used by memory map.
Using a pda/gps system instead of a dedicated gps is much more flexible i have found. I would not go back to using my old garmin gps which just gathers dust now.
You need to d/l Memory-Map 2004 European Edition from here:
http://www.memory-map.co.uk/dl_mm_navigator.htm
and then follow the geo-referencing instructions in the help. A bit difficult at first but you soon get the hang of it. I even used my digi camera on holiday to photo maps i bought over there and then used my laptop to calibrate the maps and then use them in my pda to navigate while driving.
Once you have the gps tracks from your travels saved back to the laptop, you can use them to recalibrate your maps to make them more accurate. |
