Maybe the mapping teams sent out to Ireland found a liking for the Guinness? Wink

Hi Guys
I have just come back from Ireland with my ttgo300 and it was a load of crap!, there is hit and miss road coverage(main roads only- no side roads at all) and when i say hit and miss - i mean hit and miss, one for instance was i was coming across the bridge from Strabane to Lifford, at the end of the bridge - the road just stopped, great stuff Tom Tom, it is totally useless in Ireland, buy a street map - I DID

Guys,

TomTom's claimed coverage is shown clearly on their website
http://www.tomtom.com/products/section.php?ID=74&Section=91&Language=1

Quite clearly, there is no coverage of the Republic of Ireland. Pedantically, Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain (It is, after all, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) and therefore I would not expect coverage in a GB map. It should be a UK map, but since most of us don't understand the difference between Britain, Great Britain & the UK it's hardly surprising the dutch get this wrong as well.

Yes, you might have thought that maps of western Europe would include our most westerly friends and maybe one day it will. Does this make TomTom a bad company? Are they wicked people for deceiving us like this? I don't think so - I read the website carefully and I know exactly what I'm going to get.

Old Phil, you stand corrected, i did my homework!!

I was in the market for the '700' series Go. Obviously, being hooked up to the internet i researched this model ages ago. I always like to do a bit of research to see if a particular item will 'do what it says on the tin' if you like.

In the early stages of this new series of Go's being announced, i wanted a Go which would guide me around England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (both North and South), and thats it, i don't drive on the continent.
The 700 should have met my needs, but after making several enquiries to TomTom, the told me ''...TomTom's Go 700 will only have major roads coverage for Ireland''.

The map which you pointed out in the link above, DID have the Republic of Ireland there. But after a series of complaints (most of them i bet from me!), they have withdrawn the southern part of Ireland from thier advert.

To the other comments you made, ''Does this make TomTom a bad company?'', in my opinion YES!. Firstly, for misleading potential customers, who would have to pay on average £550 for TomTom's top model, expecting a good sizeable chunk of Europe to be properly mapped to street level, Don't forget their advertising is still there on the website ''...door to door planning in Europe.'' The last time i checked Ireland was still in Europe!!
''I read the website carefully and I know exactly what I'm going to get.'', i did, and it was only digging for information that i was told this 700 would have virtually no mapping of Ireland.

To me this unit is a wate of time and money, until the get Ireland on the Map! :x

I have owned a GO since August 2004, and I knew then that there were no maps available for Eire. I still bought my GO knowing it would be fantastic for 90% + of all my travels and so it has proved.

Clearly you are not going to buy a GO 700 - and that is a good decision for you.
