Do the plus maps give you anything else other than MRE? Should I install plus maps for all regions or is it not worthwhile? |

You only have to install 1 Plus map
Its up to you which 1
Then just switch to that map when you need the MRE |

I asked tomtom this question in relation to the software only version of TTN5 and got the following answer:
"Thank you for your mail.
The software only version of TTN 5 does not include major routes of Europe
You will need to purchase the maps of western europe for TTN 5 and install a 'plus' map this will have the country and major routes attached to it."
Does the presence or absence of MRE depend on which version of TTN5 you buy (as in software-only or other?)
I can't find MRE in my software or am I missing something?

Here comes another sucker! Is Tomtom for real?
I've just spent a the evening trying to figure out how to install the Major Routes of Europe on the new arrival.
All the advertisements I've seen for this indicate that MRE is a part of Navigator 5. I've even joined Tomtom Plus for maps (not obvious to obtain a map you have to trial TT Plus).
Where can I download the Western European maps? On TT PLUS all I can seem to find are city maps!
I'm going to rue the day I ever heard of Tomtom...
What are the alternatives?
Tks
PS It has hung my Dell X50V 3 times so far this evening... |

There is NO separate MRE map.
Install any of the Plus maps and you will find the MRE included on that map.
For example, the Great_Britain_Plus map contains GB and MRE combined.
(TomTom Plus is something entirely different.) |

Linknet is correct. You can test it for yourself. Install, say, the GB plus map. You will then find you can plan a route from London to Milan, because all the major European roads are there too. You only need to install one plus map - just select that map if you want to plan a cross border, main road route.
However, someone on this forum asserts that the street level plus maps are more up to date than the basic (ie non plus) maps for the same area. I haven't been able to prove this for myself - both GB and GB plus have errors for my home town which were not there in TT3!

I can confirm that the French Plus map is more up to date than the standard map. For example the new Millau Viaduct is included on the A75. Can't say for the GB map but all the Plus maps are version 571 whereas the standard maps seem to be either version 562 or 566.
Another major advantage of the Plus maps for me is the fact that when in map view the names of smaller villages and towns remain on the map when zoomed out further. This makes it easier to find a small village by searching on the map. Although TTN3 was even better in this respect.

My TT5 came on an SD Card only and no CDs. It was not an upgrade. How do I know if I have the plus map installed or just the standard? Should I have had the plus map?
Thanks |

Change Preferences - Show Version (page 4 of 6)
Plus map has "Plus" in the name - xxxxxxx_Plus-Map v571. |

Like HieLandLad, my Great_Britian-Map came on SD. The CD has only the most useless documentation.
There is no indication of any Plus maps, even though all the adverstising blurb on Total PDS/ Ebuyer etc states
- Includes major roads in Europe
Appreciate any advise on how I might obtain these MRE maps, or how to purchase TTN5 Western European Maps, as for the upgrade.
Thanks |

Just try what I said. Set a route from London to Milan. If it works, you have the plus map. If not, you probably need to install it from your CD, removing the existing GB map folder first. (Save the contents of your SD card on your desktop, in case it all goes pearshaped, you can always get back to where you were)
