|
|
I requested City Select version 7 two weeks ago and apart from an automated email reply I have not had anything else. Is this normal or has my request gone missing?
How long did other people's updates take to arrive?
Will it be worth the wait?
Thanks

I sent in my request on Feb. 10th and it was posted on Feb 25th. As to being worth the wait, time will tell. _________________ Tim |

I rang Garmin UK - very helpful. Delivered Version 7 in 2 weeks as promised. Why not try giving them a ring?

Only purchased my Quest this week and Version 7 was delivered the day after I spoke to Garmin UK. Very efficient! :D |

It took 3 weeks for mine to arrive, they didn't respond to my emails asking if I had sent the right information or when the CD would be sent.
Then they sent me 2 CDs _________________ Gone fishing! |

Oh, it was definately worth it (hey it's free).
A few mistakes in the London maps are fixed but many other serious mistakes still remain. Navteq really need to bring their London maps up to date.
The main bonus for me is that the Ireland coverage is greatly expanded and just in time for a trip to Eire. It appears to offer coverage of "N" and "R" roads in Ireland (Irish names for what we call A & B roads in the UK). _________________ Gone fishing! |

I still think the coverage for the Rep. of Ireland is very poor.
The N and R roads are fine for "getting about", but most if the coastal roads, and scenic routes are omitted.
But I guess there is enough data for a person to drive about. |

As an Irish resident, I can tell you that the cover of Ireland has dramatically improved form the V6 to the V7 release of City Select. However, as you say, many minor and coastal roads are still not covered. I understand that NatTech are currently creating their own maps of Ireland (instead of relying on the over-expensive Ordinance survey maps).
Here's an interesting article that discusses this project: http://pocketgpsworld.com/navteq2.php
Looks like this information may not be available until v8 or v9!!
When touring around Ireland, if I'm looking for a locations that's off-map, I typically stick in a way-point (get the longtitude and latitude form something like mapquest or google.earth), and it's fairly straightforward then to reach that destination (and after all, getting lost in Ireland is an adventure, not a chore!). |

Called Garmin Europe today and was told they are old of stock
- 2/3 week lead time!
We are going to France at the end of the month. Just on case...
Does anyone live near Stoke-on-Trent?
And would you mind if I took a copy of the upgrade disks - I have the unlock codes from Garmin and can prove I own a Quest (so no problems with copywrite).
If anyone from further away would burn me a copy I'll send some CD-R's.
Thanks

I bought a Quest and fitted it to my trike just before I went on a trip from Belfast to Wales via Rosslare weekend before last. I got the v7 CDs just in time to update them before I left.
On the way back from Rosslare the Quest decided to take me through the *centre* of Dublin rather than via some sort of ring road - I know the M50 road was only finished a couple of days after I passed there, but there must have been a better way to go thru/round Dublin than the one the Quest picked... |
