When I am in the browse map option and activate POI and I drag the map to Milton Keynes in Bucks, TomTom crashes to the desktop. Any one else had this problem or has any ideas on a solution? |

I think that this may be the same problem that I am having. I originally had the problem with the POI's where I was getting the message "No POI found" as follows:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=22293
However I then thought that an upgrade of my Loox 420 from WM2003 to wm2003SE might help. This then caused a crash to desktop whenever the map was moved to an area where POI's had originally not been found. Disabling the POI's stopped it crashing as did installing the TTN3 POI.DAT file.
What happens when you search for a POI, for example Petrol Stations which seem to be a particular problem. Mine crashes.

I reinstalled the original TTN5 POI.dat file and enabled the default built in POI's and as soon as the map is moved to Milton Keynes TTN5 crashes to the desktop. Disable the POI's and I can browse that area normally.
Which PDA are you using with which operating system?

I originally thought that the problem was due to my PDA (Loox 420) being on the incompatible list. But your PDA is actually on the compatible list and a significant number of other people are having this problem on compatible PDA's.
TomTom have let a serious bug slip through. Will you be contacting TomTom on this since the more people that report the problem the sooner it will be fixed.
I have contacted TomTom but they will just say my PDA is still on the incompatible list. Although reading the Loox forums I believe the incompatibility is to do with Bluetooth access for which there is a workaround.
It may be too early to generalise but the "Missing POI's Problem" seems to result in the message "No POI found" on WM2003 and a crash on WM2003se.
If you get a reply from TomTom will you please post it here.
Regards
Roger
PS: As an interim measure you could try the POI.dat file from TTN3, this works 99% of the time but still occasionally crashes with POI's enabled or on searching for them. |

The Axim X50 is shown on the TomTom compatible list and again with WM2003 SE the "Missing POI's Problem" causes a crash.
I think there are three options until TomTom fix this:
1. Go into manage POI's and uncheck all the built in POI's.
2. Rename, move or delete the POI.dat file so TomTom can't access it.
3. Use the TTN3 POI.dat file - only Ok 99% of the time.

I frequently had lockups and crashes to today screen using tt5 on my imate jam. Removing poi's from the map reduced these problems.
I decided to try the poi.dat file from an hp navigation setup(tt 4.4) and it now appears to work flawlessly. The poi's seem fairly accurate too.
You could try this if able to find that version of tomtom. |
