Unpack, switch on and navigate using this up-to-date personal navigation assistant, with built-in navigation software. This new technology allows the user to roam freely, without wires, by foot, cycle, car or motorbike. Includes maps of the UK and Ireland on the 256Mb MMC Card, and maps for Europe supplied on one CD-ROM.

Voice output, coloured map and arrow navigation

question i cant seem to suss, Is it a pda type as it say's its windows powered so does it have excel word etc ?.Waterproof ? Not a bad price if it does and a good speed processor. Any comments on the unit much appreciated.

Hi,

Am considering buying this but am not sure how it compares to an Acer n35 and Mio 168. Any ideas or suggestions anyone?.

Is this a Pocket PC as well or a GPS only but with MP3 playback?.
Don't have any details on this particular GPS :-(.

Thank you.
Best Regards.

it looks like the:

Navigon BlueMedia PNA Sat-Nav

apart from the gps antenna.. all the buttons are the same..

it does not look like a pda with excel etc, just a navigation box with mp3 player etc..

here is what the navigon can do:

Dedicated device – instant on.
Includes full European street level maps.
All-in-one unit. No set-up or messy wires.
Award-winning Navigon MobileNavigator 4.2 software.
The latest Q2 2004 NavTeq maps (includes Southern Ireland and the M6 Toll Road)
Comes with full car mounting kit and bike mounting kit.
Full European Street Level Maps
2D or 3D modes
Full spoken and visual turn-by-turn instructions
Avoid roads/Detour function
Day or Night modes
Navigate to a street name, house number or post code
Unlimited intermediate destinations
Transfer addresses straight from Microsoft Outlook
Thousands of Points of Interest displayed (car parks, hotels etc)
Customisable user interface

What's in the box?

Navigon PNA device
Full car mounting kit
Full bike mounting kit
256Mb SD card (UK & Ireland maps pre-loaded)
CD with full European street levels maps
Car charger
Mains charger

The Navigon PNA is a dedicated satellite navigation system. Although it looks like a Pocket PC, it doesn’t have any of the additional features such as Word, Outlook etc. The benefit of this is you can switch it on and it is straight into navigating mode. Very simple to use

so thats what the navigon is on the www.gpsforless.co.uk website...

still unsure about this myself (thinking about it though)... i know medion support is non existent.. Crying or Very sad

I'm new to all this - would this unit be able to take all the points of interest databases published here?

Thanks!

Hi Chippy436,

Any ideas as to whether or not the Aldi/Medion PNA accepts poi's and what size screen does this have compared to let's say an Acer n35?. Cannot find a lot of info' on this particular GPS unfortunately?.

In your opinion is this well worth the asking price?.

Are the batteries replaceable?.

Is the Aldi/Medion PNA able to accept other maps let's say for arguments sake if you wanted to install Navigator maps for a completely different country?.

One more thing, what's the MP3 playback like?.

Thank you.
Best Regards.

Thats correct. The Medion (an MDPNA200) is a Personal Navigation Device and is locked to the software that it is supplied with. In this case Medion Navigator or Navigon Moblile navigator 4.75
You can install other Medion/Navigon maps but not maps from other applications such as TomTom or Navman.

For POI's such as the PGPSW camera database you will need a 3rd party app such as POI Warner.

Do a search for mdpna175 on the forums for more info on POI's

Some people over on www.gpspassion.com forum claim to have hacked the PNA 200 to expose the underlying OS in order to run other apps.

One member even claims to have TT5 working on his Medion sans the voice.

Bought one and am a bit confused.

Worked right out of the box.

It talks of "major roads of Europe" being enclosed on the CD. However, when I tried to plot a trip to Germany on it, it successfully mapped the route and upon zooming in had all the roads marked????

This was on the 256MB MMC card that was supplied.

Anyone shed any light?

Normally when you load a map to the memory card you select the country and some selections will include major roads of Europe.

As you are using a Medion, the map for the British Isles will include MRE when loaded to the memory card. Note that the British Isles does include street level detail, but once accross the Channel it will only be the major roads that are displayed.

If you had the Medion full disc set this is what would be included;

Austria Switzerland [179 MB]
Benelux MRE [152 MB]
DACH MRE [384 MB]
France [226 MB]
France MRE [287 MB]
Germany [223 MB]
Italy MRE [287 MB]
Scandinavia [180 MB]
Scandinavia MRE [251 MB]
Spain Portugal MRE [169 MB]
Unitedkingdom Ireland MRE [222 MB]
