Well I purchased TT1 last week from Dixons, and as the date was in the timeframe I get the TomTom 2 Update for free
I sent the CD International Recorded and it was only £3.60 to do so, they cant say they havent got it then
I cant wait to try it... I was using Kane car Pilot but I didnt like the fact that Maps could only be loaded in Sections, everything else was great barr that one annoying thing!
TT looks good tho, im getting into it a little but havent had the chance to use it much and I think I will wait until the new version is here as it might be better starting from scratch on that
Great write up Dave, helps us Noobs out too
Chris

Thanks guys, I really did have to rush it as I saw other sites had just started receiving their preview copies, I did want to take some time in getting the preview written to make sure it was thorough and gave you as much info as possible, but did release it sooner than I had anticipated.
I must say now I've run TTN2 for a week now and it still feels like the same product in essence, but I'm finding myself staying on the 3D screen most of the time. I do love the avoid road option, and being able to plot the route and demo it without having to be plugged into a GPS (it uses your last position fix) is really superb. The only thing I really haven't been able to play much with is the Charge Zone.
I did say that we would do a full review of TomTom Navigator 2, and that will happen, but probably won't include much more than the preview, but it will be based on a review from the angle of beginners that haven't used TomTom Navigator before. We have requested European map preview and also the hardware. TBH, I don't think we'll get the European maps as I had requested GB if European wasn't available, and it sounds like it's not or TomTom don't want to give that out yet. I'd like to see what the new hardware brings, it looks from the specs that it's internals is a Leadtek 9532 which is good news, but the outer casing has been specifically made. Whether Leadtek are doing this, or TomTom are changing the case I'm not entirely sure. |

Dave
I wonder if it will be possible to navigate across map areas (GB to France) with the new TTN2?
Thanks for the mini preview.
I hope there will be no problems receiving the upgrade from TomTom this time. I sent the CD and UG form registered post, but I am not sure if it arrived with TT yet!

Hi!
Great site & great preview on TTN2.
I'm a guy who's crazy about GPS. Ever thot of writing a s/w for it, but think TomTom has done a good job. Have asked them if they have Singapore map. Unfortunatly they don't.
Wonder if they would help to create the map if I send TomTom or TeleAtlas my country's road map book?
Well, guess they may find it un-economical to do a map for a small country. Really hope they'll rethink.
Anyway, it will be good if TTN2 show those road names next to the one you are travelling, which are pop-up boxes with line linked to the road, simlar to Navman SmartST Pro reviewed here.

Chris, I think you'll be able to do this, but on on the European CD as I suspect it will come as a seemless map once installed.

Royal Mail International Signed For is problematic at trying to tell if it's arrived. I sent mine 7 days ago, and it should have reached there by now, but Royal Mail still say the package is making it's way through their international network.

Unfortunately most of TeleAtlas and NavTech maps seem to be geared around Western European and North America. There seems to be a huge lack of support outside these areas.

Martin, Padstow is there and you can search for lots of streets in Padstow, but you have to enter the City name as North Cornwall to get to it. |

TOTALPDA may be claiming stock but they phoned me this morning to say that it didn't arrive on Friday as planned - some problem with the duplication of the software. Now looking at the end of the week.
Not sure if the same problem will affect those people waiting for upgrades.
