Anybody know if the full price version of Tomtom navigator 5 will include full European maps?
The company that I have pre-ordered it off seems to think they probably wont but as they are included in the upgrade it would be strange if they weren't included in the full version. |

Have a look on TomTom's website - it tells you exactly what the product will contain... only maps of one country/region. |

So if it doesn't mention 'major roads of Europe' are we to assume they wont be included? Because many of the retailers say they are!
Anyone know? |

The retailers are probably going off what came with TomTom 3.
As it doesn't say anything about MRE on the TomTom website, I'm assuming that they don't come with TT5 - bit of a , but as I am highly likely to order the full European maps as soon as possible, I'm not too worried. |

Wanted to ask the same question, so I asked TomTom.
The Navigator 5 upgrade includes the full Western Europe map set.
Good value or what???????

The Upgrade says you get the maps for Europe, and also talks about being able to use the maps for the region you are upgrading. It is unclear whether by region they mean country (Benelux maps come together for example, as does all of Scandinavia, so they can't use the word country) or whether region means Europe as opposed to North America. If the word "region" is used consistently throughout then it looks like al lthe maps will be not only on CD, but activated by the upgrade product code (NB that TT4 came with all the maps but only one region actually worked unless you paid a lot of money for an unlock code).
The full price version seems to only include one "region/country" from the product details. The in the box section mentions no map CDs and says you get one region/country on SD Card.
It may be that TomTom decided that having multiple upgrade versions for purchasers from different regions, some of whome would want upgrades for multiple regions was just too much trouble. If everyone in Europe gets the same kit on upgrade they don't have to worry too much. Due to the numbers they must sell they may have got a very good deal on the license fees they have to pay as every upgrade means there will be a set of older maps that no longer will work for anyone as the product code will be cancelled. |

Yes I know the upgrade includes the full maps but I haven't got a previous version of Tomtom so I have to buy the full version. If as 'insanity' says the full version doesn't contain the full maps of europe then that seems bizarre to me. It would probably be much better value to buy Tomtom 3 (assuming it is still available), and then buy the upgrade.
I've tried to contact Tomtom with no luck, their website wont let me email them because it says I'm not registered (I am, and logged in) and their phone line is too busy. |

This is what I considered doing, and if you've already got a GPS receiver then it is probably worth doing. There are various places on the web which claim to still have TT3 in stock, Handtec being one of them if memory serves me.
However, because I don't already have a GPS receiver (ignoring the crappy USB one I got with CoPilot Laptop 7), it's going to work out just as cheap to buy TT5 and the European maps when available - plus I get the added "bonus" (!) that if I have any problems I can scream very loudly at TomTom and they can't try blaming it on the GPS receiver |

Be warned that the cost just to activate the European maps on the CD included in the TT4 navigation pack was/is € 189,00, There is no option to pay less to active fewer maps. Buying TT5 then hoping to upgrade to more maps could be very expensive if TT adopt the same policy. |

But what about those of us who own European Maps for TTN3..? We are assuming that they will be deactivated off our one ttcode? They have not stated that we will get them neither. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

Sorry if I have caused any confusion. The question I asked TomTom was
"I have just ordered the Navigator 5 upgrade via you website.
I have the Navigator 3 UK software and the Western Europe maps set.
It is not very clear on your website which maps I will actually get in the upgrade.
I would like to know if I will need to buy an upgrade to the western europe set, or as it appears to suggest on your website a set of europe maps is included in the upgrade.
Thank you for your help.
Raymond Davis"
The answer I got back was
"Dear Mr Davis,
Thank you for your e-mail.
The Maps of Western Europe are included in the upgrade for 59 euros.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team" |

Given that the European maps for the TomTom Go are about £100, I'm assuming that it will be about the same for Navigator users. In fact, there was a thread on here where someone claimed the TomTom Go European maps would work with Navigator now that everything is the same core software... |
