Hi Firstly don't get cross with me if I have gone about this in the wrong way! I found your site by accident and although I only understand about 2% of what is being said, you seem like very knowlegeable guys. My problem is that I bought my compaq iPaq 3850 and iPaq navigation jacket uses Co pilot over two years ago. It never really worked properly - it could never find the location. I took it back to the store and the card from the back of the jacket was replaced - still didn't work - 'phoned the helpline - did soft resets, hard resets etc. still didn't work. Put the thing in the drawer for 20 months. Someone mentioned to me that the there is a fault with the jackets/cards. Phoned HP again this morning who basically said, after 45 minutes being passed around - buy a new jacket. Before I do does anyone have any idea what could be wrong??? Sorry to have wittered on. Hi,
I'm only new here myself so don't believe anything I say, :D
What do you mean when you say that,..."It never really worked properly - it could never find the location."?
Did it acquire the satellites?
Did it send you the wrong way on your journey?
When you took it back to the shop, was it tested and working before you paid for the repair?
Any extra info will help the guys who know their stuff.

It's quite possible it could be faulty. Usually there is a screen where it gives status information such as your location and importantly how many satellites you can see.
Does it ever show receiving any satellites at all? Remember you must be outside.
If it does show satallites, then try putting it outside with a good view of the sky for at least 30 minutes.
If it doesn't see any satellites it could be broken, on the other hand it might just mean your connection is not configured correctly. |

Hi When I first had the iPaq it took me ages firstly to configure to my pc and then when I eventually managed to download the routes etc. it wouldn't find the satallite at first, although it did manage firstly after 15 minutes outside, the next two or three 'tries' it didn't and then it managed once more. But never since. When I first took it back to the shop - it was sent back and then a new one issued although that too never worked , somehow between the shop and HP they made me feel it was my fault and wasn't setting it up properly. That may well be true, but where do I go from here?
Thanks

What you really need is somebody who is familiar with the software/hardware you are using who has the time and patience to talk you through setting the whole thing up properly, just in case you made a boo-boo. |

TomTom Navigator is a navigation program like CoPilot, yes.
