|
|
I'm torn... do I buy myself TomTom 3, a GlobalSat BT338 and the TomTom 5 Upgrade (total cost somewhere in the region of £275), or do I wait and just buy TomTom 5 (£200?).
I think it's the fact that the former would also get me the European maps that is tempting me, but at the same time I wouldn't use them that often and I'm assuming I could save the money for the time being and buy them later when I do need them.
Decisions, decsisions... 8O |

Its not clear that the full version 5 will not contain the European maps - is it ? _________________ --

The product information on TomTom's website gives the game away there - definitely only one region of maps plus Major Roads of Europe. |

I wouldn't bet on also getting Major Roads of Europe. For GO they removed this map completely. Only the integrated Plus maps now (included in Maps of Western Europe) |

Ive got the chance to buy tomtom 3, is it worth buying this now especially as the price is pretty good and then buying the upgrade? This will make it cheaper for me than buying just tomtom 5. Is there reason why it'd be better to buy just tomtom 5 instead of the upgrade? |

I waited and waited, finally decided to go TT3 + upgrade only to discover that all the places that sell reasonably priced copies don't have stock and aren't sure if they'll get more

Yes, you get maps for all of Europe with the upgrade. Hence the reason why it seems to be worth considering getting TT3 + upgrade rather than just waiting and buying TT5.
If I already had a GPS receiver, then it wouldn't be a contest. However, I don't, and so to get TT3 + Upgrade + receiver will probably cost about the same as TT5 (with receiver) + European maps.
I guess the main question is do I want the TomTom receiver or do I want to buy a different one? |

Define "reasonable priced". I've only been able to find it for about £100 + VAT - www.gpsw.co.uk claim to have it in stock. |

A fair point I was looking at somewhere like ebuyer or RL supplies (£93 inc Vat) There were a few more as well, GPS for less were about the same price. But then again it's easy to advertise a low price when you don't have stock
It's only a small difference, but it makes it easier to justify buying older software and paying for the upgrade.
