|
|
I'm a very lite user of my TomTom Navigator 3 (using the standard old blue/grey Bluetooth gps box) only using it when I need to go somewhere I haven't been before (last time, over 4months ago) -went to Jersey, and no coverage!!!
We are moving to Spain next month and are driving down through France and Spain on the 20th of June.
I've installed the 'free' major roads of europe from my CD on to my PDA, but I'm unsure what this will give me. We plan to take our time driving down, stopping here and there...so perhaps I need the same level of detail I have with the UK maps?
When I was looking at purchasing the maps, I now notice that they are releasing Navigator5. Now I'm happy with TTN3, but will my TTN3 european maps work if I later decide to purchase TTN5? - I've heard that this comes with all of european as standard, unlike TTN3 which you have to buy extra.
So, go ahead and spend £130 on the maps or do I wait until TTN5?
Many thanks guys...
Regards

It depends what detial you want via Fracne/Spain if you will need the more detailed maps. If you are just 'passing through' it will do fine as all the motorways and main roads are there (sounds stupid saying that due to the maps name I guess).
If you want to drive through larger towns you'll have all the roads you need to get through, but NOT all the roads you will travel along if you turn off or have the availabilty to navigate/show locations (i.e. restraunts/shops/parking ect.).
If you want to go to smaller towns/villages it will navigate you to NEAR BY via the best roads it's has (not always the best route), then you will just need to follow a few roads signs adn thats it.
If you do want/need city maps or all the roads to the towns/villages then I'd wait.
I am sure you've looked through the posts about the release date(s) and I think it's fair to say that no one can say 100% when they will be out. What I would do is just ge the maps to arrive about 1 week before you go incase of any problems, if you get V5 great (you'll need TT5 as well as the maps), if you get V3 you needed the maps anyway... _________________ iPAQ 2110

Forogt to add.
Regular TT5 will just be UK and Major Roads, not full Europe coverage I believe (i.e. same as we currently have). You'd need TT5 Europe maps...
If you get TT3 Maps of Europe they wont work on TT5 _________________ iPAQ 2110

Why won't they? I'm led to believe the initial upgrade will be the same as the TomTom GO, i.e. a free download and you just have to pay for the maps. The expectation being that TomTom3 maps will work with TomTom5.
I expect you won't get postcodes etc. |

I hope you are right. I just thought from the post I had seen here that they did not work, things may well of changed now though.
Not sure why I'd want TT5 with TT3 maps though, but hey, if it's free . . . . _________________ iPAQ 2110

the tomtom 3 software is totally different from 5
5 is based on the go software which is why you could upgrade
