|

I have just gone through 3 Socket Bluetooth GPS receivers with various faults and am now awaiting yet another replacement.
None of the faults were Bluetooth related yet with each unit the bluetooth reception range was vastly different, from only 1 metre to a maximum of 4 metres.
Now, as I understand it, since both the GPS and PDA are Bluetooth ver. 1.1 class 2 they should have a range of 10 metres line of sight.
I would welcome any comments on the normal reception range to expect.

I discovered what the problem was.
During all testing for range I was holding the PDA in the palm of my hand. This was shielding reception of the Bluetooth signal. With the PDA held only at the base the Bluetooth reception was still good at 10+ metres.
So line of sight does mean exactly what it says. No allowance for hands in the way!!

I recently purchased the socket BT GPS for use with my T5 and via michelin. Used it for the first time yesterday and must say I am very pleased with it (Expansys £61.95 inc vat).
It so far seems more accurate than my wired Haicom unit which had to go when I upgraded from my T1 (thanks for changing the connection PalmOne!).
Regarding the bluetooth range I was upstairs with the palm whilst the receiver was on the downstairs window, still making a connection some 10 metres away through a floor and wall!
The other impressive features are it's size which comfortably fits inside shirt pocket and the wrap around rubber feet, which keep it firmly placed on the dash (one of which doubles up as charging socket cover)
10/10 socket |
