Hi,

I have installed the mentioned software and all is well however, I have a couple of questions.

1 - I have set the PDA to back up automatically once a day to the SD card. Every time it does a backup it saves it as a new folder and does not replace the existing folder. Can it be set to overwrite, and if not what happens when the card is full, would it save the most recent backup?.

2 - Can I do a one-off backup to my PC to include a copy of the SD card as well as all my programs on the PDA. If this is possible, after a restore from my PC how would it know what to put on the SD card and what to put on the PDA harddrive.

Cheers

In the BU file maintenance options you can set the number of BU files that are saved before being over written.

In the exclusion rules deselect "persistent storage" to back up the whole of the PDA

Backup Progs always seem to Know where to put things back where they belong!

As an edit to my previous post Backing up to PC is a feature of the Premium edition and it takes quite a while to perform I don't really see the point of backing up the storage card through this program if you can do a copy useing a card reader

It is also a good idea to ensure you are doing the back-up as a self executable file (.EXE) - it's one of the options. Otherwise you need to reload the Sprite software first if your PDA crashes. I made that mistake once....!

I have just purchased Sprite Premium Edition Version 3.1.4 Build 2419.

I am pretty much unsure how to use this software (excuse my ignorance folks) so perhaps someone could guide me through this!

I basically want to back up my whole 2210 to my SD card so that in the event of my having to perform a hard reset or the 2210 hard resetting itself, I can quickly restore my entire 2210 from the SD card.

I have just looked through the Backup options and they are set up as follows...

General Backup Options
-----------------------------

(Ticked)......Compress Backup
(Ticked)......Stop Processes Before Backup
(Un-Ticked).Encrypt Backup
(Ticked)......Name Backup Files Automatically
(Ticked)......Create self-restoring Backup Files

Backup File Management
------------------------------

(Un-Ticked)..Maximum amount of space.....
(Ticked).......Maximum number of backup files etc (Value = 2)

Exclusion Rules
------------------

(Ticked)......Enable Exclusion Rules
(Ticked)......Sprite Backup Files
(Un-Ticked)..Programs (*.EXE,*.DLL)
(Ticked)......Persistent Storage

END

I assume that's all the options there are for the Backup. Grateful to know if the above setting are correct for what I want to achieve.

Also (sorry to go on), I need to know if I need to delete the existing back up (iPaq Backup) software that came pre-installed on the 2210. If I should delete it then what is the best way to do this.

Many thanks in advance for your guidance.

Tom

Sounds good to me - just about what mine is set to. I keep three files, and back up once a week. In answer to your query, No you do not have to delete old back-up files on the SD card, and No you do not have to delete the old back-up software on the PDA.

Regards,

Steve

Thanks Steve, that has put my mind at rest now. The 2210 can go and reset itself whever it likes now!

Cheers

Tom

Once you have paid for it, you get free updates as well to the Sprite software, so it is worth looking occasionally at the Forum on the Sprite site.

In my opinion, it's a good piece of software. It works well.

In view of all the positive comments made about it I have paid for it already. Just backed up twice to my SD card, so hopefully that's me protected. I will probably back up again to another card as well just in case!

Thanks again.
