I've used 5.1 on my Go 300 twice so far. Both times without a route planned. Both times it was totally confused for about half a mile - had me going north when I was going south. Then when it realised where it was the map spun 360 degrees 2 or 3 times untill it settled on my true direction! I wasnt really doing 360's officer!
Seriously, before the 300 got a good fix the map would be greyed out, now it seems to want to show the map before its ready - quite amusing really. Will see what it does tomorrow.

The key thing - because what you described above I think is relatively normal - its just believing its got a signal when maybe it didn't.

But if you tried then clicking on navigate to (whilst no signal) or even browse map. What then happens?

OK I think this may have been to a corrupt install or a dodgy SD Card. The more observant will possibly spot (from the other forum post) that when I came to format the card it killed the card totally.

I therefore replaced the card. Reinstalled and then upgraded and all is now fine and no lock ups. That said the new card is 256MB so if the issue was due to the low space left on the 300 (128MB) card then they may find the issue still exists!

Not sure whether this has happened to anyone else but my Go running 5.10 locked up whilst sat at traffic lights. Not wishing to dismount and reset I continued on my journey, about a minute late it rebooted and worked fine.

I have run versions 4.21,4.40, 4.42 and 5.0 prior to this with no problems. Maybe a one-off but just wondering whether anyone else has had this happen?

Do you still have the original 128mB card? Some have reported this when there is not enough memory free on the card for TTG to use.

Particularly if you have the amended voice pack and have kept a backup of the old one on the TTG. Certainly be interested to know if 1MB or less on the card could cause the lock ups.

TTG during the course of a journey is continually writing to the SD card. This is why it remembers where it was last switched off. Also the routing information is written to the SD card. How much memory this takes up I've no idea.

Well the 300 comes with 128MB card (120MB) even in its raw state that leaves approx 1MB spare maybe 2MB so its not a lot of memory to play around with. certainly feel more comfortable now I have moved to 256MB.

After what everyone has been saying about backing up the orginal Tomtom SD card, and that it may atually be too small, and therefore could cause crashes, I purchased a 256MB Sandisk SD.

The Tomtom could not format or write to this card, but not to be outdone, I formated the card using my Palm Pilot (i'm sure a card reader would be the same), after which the Tomtom worked fine.

Copied everything to the new card and have had no problems since. Should of kept my mouth shut I know Wink

I’m waiting for my new TTG 300 to come from Maplins, does any one know if the new TTG 300 is coming out with the V.5 or the V5.1.

Thanks, Smile

I believe all have V5.0 but just foolow all the advice about backing up, because the maps are not on the CD. Also upgrade to 5.1 before you start putting any Favourites or POI's on the SD card.
