I'm selling my Mio168 and Navigator3. I activated the software when I bought it and now just want to sell the lot as my new car has satnav built in. Is it possible to de-activate my copy so that someone else can activate it when I have sold it to them?
I asked tomtom this question and they have not bothered to answer apart from one snotty email about Navigator not being transferrable to anyone else. This seems unfair - I just dont need it anymore so why cant someone else use it?
Any ideas or have I grasped the wrong end of this stick?

TomTom think they are right, since this is also stated in the fine print. licenses are not transferable.

There are a few discussions around this topic on the forum, and I am pretty sure there are different laws in different countries confirming or rejecting TomTom's claim.

I think the license says you can transfer it to a new owner if it stays on the original device

Even if it doesn't they would have a hard time in court proving that it wasn't an unfair term.

The saga continues. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be honest with people like this. Now wonder there are a gazillion hacked versions of TTNav3 out there. Good luck to them!

TT can't even get their website to work properly. A phrase involving a drinks party and a brewing establishment comes to mind.

The software is sold as personal software and the activation can not be removed from the record.
Of course you can sell the software but we are not able to give supprt to the buyer when
he has activation problems unless he can show us a original proof of purchase and explain previous activations.
The remarks from previous activations will always follow the product code.

That's not fair.
I need a way to uninstall and remove TomTom from my pc so that I can sell it. Surely there must be a way to remove my details from your database of serial numbers so that someone else can buy the software from me and register it. What possible reason could you have for denying this to genuine buyers and registered users of the product?
There are PLENTY of hacked versions of TomTom available out there for free and they don't need activation and this is how you treat people who have actually invested in your product?

thank you for your mail.

TomTom Navigator requires online software activation. All copies of TomTom Navigator and maps are sold with a product code. Second hand TomTom products are likely to have already been activated once or more by the first buyer and the product code may therefore no longer be valid. For this reason we advise our customers not to purchase TomTom Navigator and maps second hand.
The buyer can not activate a second hand product!!!

I am going to be upgrading to the Go and selling my Mitac with the pre-installed tomtom software. Is there anything special that I need to do before I sell the pda & tomtom?
I was told that you were only allowed to install the software on a pc once - I would like whoever who buys it to have a full, functioning and legal version of the software, so what do I do?

As long as you don't uninstall it and you supply then with the activation codes you used, then I can't see a problem.

I think the problem then is that if the new owner enters his/her name into it, it's going to reject it. May work though if I supply a user name and password - It's not like I'm going to ever BUY another bit of software from TomTom again.

The activation is tied to the 'Hardware'.. So long as you're selling the hardware and software together, the owner will not have any activation issues. I don't see where the problem is?

I thought that the software has to be installed on a PC if the new owner wanted to modify the installation in any way. I assumed that this is where the problem would occur.
Hope I'm wrong.

Ps on the verge of putting the thing on ebay, the bloody windscreen mount broke when I was cleaning it, ready to be packed in the box. Typical.
Anyone have any recommendations as a replacement?

So all I have to do is provide any new owner :
1) The activation code (included with the software)
2) My Username & Password for the TomTom account

And the new guy will not have any problems?

Yes. Actually the new owner only needs the activation code and software. www.ttcode.com is accessible even without your TomTom account.

It won't allow it. You can activate the initial device and then you cannot activate another different debice until 7 days has passed. After that you must wait 6 months for the third.

You can of course re-activate a previously activated device any time.

Of course, not withstanding the above, legally you may only install TomTom on one device.
