Jane uttered a new word today - "Depart" - that I've not heard before.
Following a route, I drove down a tree-lined road and temporarily lost the GPS signal (ASN flashing). When TTG got the signal again it did a quick route recalc then Jane said "Depart" and a little flag with "GO" written on it appeared in the bottom left corner of the screen.
The meaning of the phrase is obvious, but when is it used? |

I had something similar last night, I got home and she announced that I "had reached my destination", before updating to V5 it used to say that directly outside my house, now it says it about 3 houses before.
I pulled up at my house and parked and wondered what would happen if I asked for a route from my position to my house.
TTG wanted me to drive 3/4 the way down the road to do a U turn!
She kept saying depart then as well.
I also got the flag and depart when I exited a tunnel the day before. |

This normally happens when the signal has been lost for some reason of another and then comes back again. When the fix has been achieved again it is not always accurate and will sometimes be ahead of your actual position. The GO will then recalculate the route based on the wrong position. In the meantime the position will stabalise and become more accurate. all of a sudden you are right on top of the original point for recalculating the route, hence the "Depart".
I was a bit surprised the first time I heard that one as well. _________________ Mike Barrett |

It also happens if you are away from a recognised road.
If you start your journey and as you approach what TTG recognises as a proper road, it makes the annoucement as that is the point where it will start directing. _________________ Richard
