I have checked the data.chk file and it SEEMS like the bigger version that I downloaded earlier, and which worked with 5.0.
Does the file work with 5.1 do we know? |
It didn't on mine. Locked up the tom tom at the hands screen when I tried. I guess we now have to wait for the file to be updated. I copied the new data.hk (backed it up first) back and all was fine.
The route calculation is significantly faster though - so big benefit there.

So do they include a new data.chk file in the 5.10 download, which overwrites the "voices" one that I manually put in there?
Can I ask - how big is your data.chk file from the new download, with the normal bells and whistles? |

Have you tried downloading the .zip file? Some browsers have trouble with the .exe. |
I can't even get the page to load and haven't been able to for the last 3 days. |

So now it turns out that we could have had the postcode search as a free download in 5.1 and not spent £61... Well done to all of you that waited...
Sorry but I'm even more annoyed now... How sneaky is that? _________________ Life's a bitch... then I met Jane... |

Dont see where you got that from!
As ever the version 5.1 software is software only. The postcode file comes as a licensed part of the map upgrade. _________________ Mike Barrett |

One confirmed bug-fix from v5.00 to 5.10:
Wen you create a favorite with the spesifik letters for Scandinavia they become in capitals (ÆØÅÄ) eks: McDonalds RÆlingsØy.
This is fixed in v 5.10 (McDonalds Rælingsøy) _________________ Gunnar Nystul, Forum Admin, TomTom Forum Norway and Nystul Navigasjon |

OK I believe I have found a bug and some observations:
Startup of the TTG (300) is markably slower than it was previously
If you start it in an area with no GPS signal and then plan a route, when it finds the route the ttg locks up with a mixture of the refreshing route and the route shown on the screen. Then needs switching off and back on to resolve.
In terms of the actual route calculation this is significantly faster - very impressive. Certainly one concern I had seen mentioned was regarding the 300 and calculation of journeys in Europe - I can't see this as being an issue.

Is their an edit ability in this forum?
I meant to say when it finds a signal the ttg then locks up.
It only locks if the route was planned before a signal was found.

It's not anything I've noticed in the Classic. If the route is planned in advance and you move off before there is a sat fix, it takes longer to get the information it requires. So it will lock in and out, perhaps several times before it operates as expected. While it is doing that it will show the map like time lapse photography, showing snapshots each time it appears to get a fix. _________________ Richard

No that is fine and is how it works on mine:
This is the scenario to lock it:
Switch on TTG - No GPS Signal - do it indoors is best
Plan route.
Now get a GPS signal - at this point it rechecks the route and crash. If others report this does not cause a crash then i'll reload. Note this did not happen in 5.00.

I've only used my V5.1 once today. Will try it out again tomorrow, using your scenario. _________________ Richard

I've used 5.1 on my Go 300 twice so far. Both times without a route planned. Both times it was totally confused for about half a mile - had me going north when I was going south. Then when it realised where it was the map spun 360 degrees 2 or 3 times untill it settled on my true direction! I wasnt really doing 360's officer!
Seriously, before the 300 got a good fix the map would be greyed out, now it seems to want to show the map before its ready - quite amusing really. Will see what it does tomorrow. |
