Gizmo - regardless of how you feel (and you are rightly p***ed off), RETURN THE UNIT for a replacement. Complaining about it won't fix it. Get them to give you another. If everyone with this sort of problem does that, then Navman will soon get the message. Hopefully your next one will work properly. |

touching a raw nerve here then....I do 'feel' for you but at what point would you say this is a problem if most people are happy? If we had 1000 complaints on just this issue compared to 1,000,000,000 units sold.....i'd say there is little issue
If you are unhappy with the unit...return it..... |

My guess is that the sales numbers for the 510 are far less than 50k so far, and of that number only 40% have actually been purchased by endusers.
A very large local dealer brought in 80 units in Feb and he is still sitting on over 60 despite the fact he has bombed the prices twice in the past 2 months to less than $300US. He says most customers are opting to wait for improvements and cheaper prices or buying PPCs.
IMHO.. the 510 lacks any quality control and is not well suited for the US market. |

None taken ah...but the reason the Navman reciever appears so low powered is that it complies with the current SAR recomendations for a personal device - that are strictly enforced in NZ, that's why Nokia and Motorla do so poorly in that market - they do not make differing units for the rest of the world....maybe a mistake Other manufacturers may class their devices as something other than hand-held/personal and so get better recievers. Let's not also forget it's the mapping software also on the units that can appeal in the great SAT NAV arena.
All I can say for sure is the 5 units I have access to all FIX fine - are all from the second run of manufacture (about December 04). They all worked faster in the USA than here - as access to the Magellan satalites is better from a geographical point.....SP1 helped for some issues but made US use a pain on address lookup, and SP2 is on it's way
....Of no help to those with problems, but I'm happy enough |
Strange that the 510 is classified hand-held / personal, being it can't be used off road like a real gps.
I have a $50US Magellan explorist 100 that uses 2AA cells that acquires satellites faster than the 510 in side by side test outdoors.
I've also noticed for some unknown reason the 510 satellite status screens occasionally don't update. Which means you have to backpage a screen or 2 and then retry the status again to get it to start updating the status again. Sounds like something other than poor signal quality to me, more like sloppy workmanship and nonexistent quality control. |
