|
|
I have just bought a Globasat bluetooth gps off ebay. The unit will come with a large 2 pin plug. I can only seem to find small round adapters so I can convert it to a 3 pin plug. Can anyone suggest somewhere I can try?
TIA |

You'd be better using the correct adapter. UK wiring regs require a specific 3 pin plug for cable that is 2-core (i.e. lacks earth) and these special plugs have a plastic middle pin.
Find out what plug type it is and confirm that it is 220/240v or 220/110v first. If it's 110v only then you'll need a trsnsformer and cannot connect it deirectly to 220/240v supplies.
It will most likely be a standard Euro 2 pin plug, the converters for these are inexpensive and easy to source. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi there,
If your Globalsat is US or Canada sourced, it will have a power pack with two transverse pins designed to fit North America mains sockets. Mine is a Touch Electronics type SA0105-A which auto detects voltages from 100 to 240 volts and works either way round polarity wise. It came from Canada and I have been using it for about a year now with my BT-308. All the important info should be on the charger itself if it came from North America.
If yours is of this type, then it will work fine plugged into a common or garden UK shaver adaptor that can be obtained commonly for about £1.50.
PM me if you have any further query.

Thanks for the replies. It will take about a week before I get it so I will post what adaptor it is then. The plug looks like a rectangular block in the picture but I do not know if its european or american yet.

You had the image tags the wrong way around.
That's a US adapter as detailed by Steve999. It should be 220/110v auto switcheable so you can use an adapter. You MUST not replace it with a UK plug. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi,
That appears to be the identical charger to the one I have and described above.
If so, simply buy a UK 3 pin shaver adaptor from Woolies or similar - fits perfectly.

I have just noticed. In the picture the unit seems to have 3 green LEDS. Surely they should be different colours according to others I have seen? |

Calm down! It's only a commercial. Photo reproduction can be deceiving.
My Globalsat, although a different model, came from Canada and apart from the charger pins already discussed, is identical in every way to one you would buy anywhere else.

Well the bt-338 arrived an what a beauty it is!
Just one more quick question about power.
Can I just use a multi voltage adaptor to charge it and not use the 2 pin at all?
I have recently bought one that is switchable and comes with 7 different ends to power my pda tv card.
I thought I had better ask in case I blow the thing up |

That depends on if you trust it! I'd just buy the adapter and use the supplied power unit. _________________ Darren Griffin |
