I just got the answer back from TT USA,
Dear Mr. XXXXX,
TomTom Navigator 5 is expected to begin shipping on or around May 20th. The software will begin shipping in Europe and North America at that time. If you do purchase Navigator 2004 prior to the release date you will be eligible for a free upgrade to Navigator 5 when it becomes available. If you have any further questions please let us know.
Regards,
USA Customer Support
Hope it is true. |

Hi All,
Just recieved this reply from TomTom re TTN5:
Dear Mr xxxx,
TomTom Navigator 5 will be shipped in June to retailers throughout Europe and be available via our website.
We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,

Seems like TomTom people are just making up dates, till now, I have read all the possible dates then can mention to all the people who have send them an email asking when they are releasing TTN 5. :D. I guess it depends on who answers the mail, if diff people are answering the mail then chances are that we might get different dates for the release. |

I emailed TT - asking about when the Upgrade was likely to be available (considering they've said MAY - and that details would be in the newsletter - which I haven't received either).
Their reply as follows;
Dear Mr xxxx,
Thank you for your email.
Navigator 5 has not been released yet. We have plans to release it soon, however the official date is not set. Once it has been released, a news letter will be sent out.
We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team
Hmmm... you'd have thought they'd have some idea, considering it's going to be available in Europe in May... |

There are (at least) two suppliers I've spoken with quoting late May right now, I don't think we've got too much to worry about. At the moment I'm still trying to get a definitive list of features removed in the upgrade.

there a post on aximsite.com with a reply from tomtom US stating the upgrade to version 5 will be avilable from June 18th 2005!
Not sure how accurate all these dates are (18th June is a Saturday) and whether any reliance can be put on them for European or US users. but this date makes sense for upgrades based on past experience.
It is likely that the retail packages for new users will be available first and the upgrades will follow a while later - so a late May launch with the upgrades in June maybe accurate.
With TTN3 the upgrade shipped a few weeks after the non upgrades with v3.01 whereas the new sales shipped with v3.0 so at least new users get to see all the problems.
I would certainly like to have the uk maps plus the european set before July and be assured that it is usable and stable. Remember the appalling address searching - TTN3 was only usable (at least in the UK) after v3.03 was issued.

I've just looked at this ... and no-where could I see any mention of "pre order". If I didnt know better, EasyDevices are saying they have TTN5 - which clearly they cannot.
Doesnt the guy from ED post around these parts ? |
