Hello,

I'm a real newbie into the GPS realm and I've been trying to figure out how to properly view the gpx/xml files downloaded from http://www.travelbygps.com/premium/sc_waterfalls/SC_Waterfalls.php within TomTom.

I'm not too familiar on how to convert a xml/gpx format to something TomTom can better understand. Here's the issue I have:

ex:

<wpt lat="34.718233300" lon="-83.303816700">
<name>SCB01</name>
<cmt>BRASSTOWN FALLS</cmt>
<desc>#01 - Brasswown Falls</desc>
<sym>Scenic Area</sym>
<type>Dot</type>

Within TomTom's description, just shows me SCB01 and nothing else. And I'm not too sure the coordinates are accurate either in this format. I tried my luck ( Embarassed ) and drove to some spots...15 miles down a gravel dirt road and just a dead end, ugh. It was fun powersliding around those corners though.

Btw, I've downloaded a POIedit, EasyGPS, and ExpertGPS, converted with the same issues. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong??? Crying or Very sad

Thanks

the coordinates look ok. You need to concatenate the descriptions. Maybe POIConverter does already do that for you. Have you tried that?

Sounded like a good idea...but when it was converted, it stripped the data and didnt list any coordinates in TomTom. Tried ov2 & asc, size went down to ~2kb. Seems like the only alternative would be editing the gpx/xml file and replace all the names, humm. Sad Thanks though!

When using POI Convertor, try changing the top TomTom option "Use for Name" to Description.
I did this and used it to dump from the gpx file to an asc file to see what it output. It looked fine, apart from that all the positions are in the US and my TomTom maps are UK - in that case TomTom won't list the POIs for me as they're not on the current map. I used Notepad to change all the lats and longs to somewhere in the UK, then converted it to ov2. That file loads fine in TomTom and shows up in the POI list with descriptions.

Also bear in mind that TomTom can only navigate you along the roads it knows about. So if a waterfall is miles away from any road that it knows, it'll just get you as near as it can, which may or may not be the right place!

Woot...it worked! :D Thanks! Btw, I wish I knew about that before hand, Laughing Out Loud. Took some rough back roads, one running into a shack with a warning trespassers sign...didnt bother to read the rest, quick 180!

Thanks yall!
