Hi.
Could anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive bluetooth GPS / navigation solution with good Ireland coverage / POI for my iPAQ 4150 (WM2003)?
Options I am considering are:
1) Co-pilot 5 GPS bundle.
2) TomTom Navigator 3 GPS bundle: I have heard that Co-pilot has comprehensive Ireland maps but TomTom does not. Is this true?
3) Dell navigation system:
Can you tell me if the Dell Navigation System (as used by the Axim X50) is compatible with the iPAQ 4150? Apparently, their navigation software requires an XScale processor but I don't know if my iPAQ has this. Has it good Ireland coverage?
4) Destinator bundle: What is Destinator's Ireland coverage like and can it be loaded to an SD card on an iPAQ 4150.
5) Purchasing a GPS receiver alone to use with Mapopolis software that I already have: I downloaded a number of free 9-day map demos from mapopolis.com over a month ago and curiously still have most of them (Are Mapopolis maps actually free??). If I can keep these indefinitely, I would consider just getting a GPS receiver.
Can you recommend any of the above or do you have any other suggestions?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The key for Ireland coverage is to ensure your chosen package has Navteq map data. although still far from complete Navteq currently have better coverage in Ireland especially in the Republic compared to TeleAtlas.
TomTom use TeleAtlas, CoPilot use Navteq. Of those that you list, CoPilot would be the better solution. _________________ Darren Griffin |

What do you call inexpensive? Garmin GPS10 BT receiver with Mapsource CitySelect full unlock (has Czech Republic and Athens as well as the usual Western European suspects) for £190. Added bonus is that you can plot routes on a PC and you get navigation software for PC (nRoute) and PPC (Que). _________________ Tim |

Navteq (Garmin, Mapopolis, CoPilot) seem to have the best maps of Ireland at the moment. It's only about 50% mapped but the major roads, Dublin, Belfast and major cities are mapped.
CoPilot has serious problems with it's routing and their technical support is shamefully bad, read the CoPilot forum if you are considering buying this software.
Mapopolis maps are supposed to expire 9 days after you download them. It's a pretty cheap GPS solution and works reasonably well too.
Garmin stuff is good quality and worth considering too. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Thanks for all the advice.
I was seriously considering co-pilot but never knew there was a problem with routing.
Can anyone tell me anything if the Dell Navigation System would be a good solution? |

The Dell Navigation System is yet another re-brand of the Intellinav product. This appears under at least half a dozen different names that I know of!
If you look here you will see my review a while back of Socket MyNavigator which is the same software. Intellinav has had some upgrades since my review but the product is for the most part the same so the review will give you an idea of the product. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks.
So from what I read the software should work with an iPAQ 4150, right?
Dell informed me that the software works with an Xscale processor; My device has a PXA processor (I think?). Are these one and the same thing?
(Sorry if this query appears trivial.) |
