Just to report, my Socket GPS arrived back from the USA today, came by Fedex.
Unit has been replaced and works just fine (thank goodness!).
Only problem is, I keep getting the bluetooth screen poppingup when I leave the car (and Socket) behind, I am sure I had a fix for this before but cannot remember or find it, any clues anyone?

If anyones intrested, this months copy of PCPRO magazine has an article on UK law and distance buying, reading that Exspansys is breaking the law refering you to the manufacturer.

Thanks Phil
I got my returns number late Friday night (after another email chase) sent it today (Cost £6ish) I will wait a few days or so and then email them to chase again.
Oh well, Murco 2003 roadmap and a large GPRS bill looking things up on the net whilst driving for a few more weeks yet then?

LocktightT,
Did you pay by credit card, if so take it up with them, if it is more than £100 (which it is) then they are responsible for any issues with the supplier.

Well here we are on the 22nd of May, I have been in contact with socket in the USA, they sent me a couple of emails and promised to send one with returns details for the USA, still not had it.
I have to say that users should beware from buying from Expansys, if I had not have had any joy from socket I would have taken it further (like Hollis kindly sugested above), but even though I registered my Socket GPS the returns process seems very slow and I guess it will cost me a little to return it to the USA.
I will keep everyone posted in case yours goes bang too.

Get on the phone to Expansys and tell them that the device is not fit for its intended purpose and that the law says it's their responsibility. I had to do this to persuade them to replace faulty goods.
Manchester Trading Standards have a nice site. The people at Expansys might be interested in this page.- especially this bit...
"I bought a computer that went wrong after two months - I went back to the trader, but they said it was OK when they sold it to me, so they won't do anything about it. Is this right?"
No. As the fault occurred within six months, they have to prove that it was OK when they sold it to you - that probably means having it tested or sending it back to the manufacturer for a second opinion. If they cannot prove it was OK when you bought it, you can choose a free repair, a replacement, a reduction in the price or ask to rescind the contract (they may reduce the amount they refund to you to allow for the month's use that you have had)." |

Hi Darren
I have been looking around the internet at this very subject, I know there are different rules for "Distance Buying", does anyone know (in plain english please!) what the legal stance on this is please?
If Expansys are going against english law then I would like to take it further with them.
What really annoys me is that they cannot even be bothered to provide me witht he correct information to sort it out with the manufacturer.
I know how many people visit this forum before they decide what to buy and where from, my statement to those people would be to avoid Expansys at all costs.

I was under the impression that although companies tried this tactic, UK Law stated that responsibility lay with the retailer and not the manufacturer? _________________ Darren Griffin |
