Hi all, I am having major problems with this gps receiver. I need help. I got my 9537 this morning, charged the receiver and was ready to go. I have tomtom 3 installed on my rx3715. I switched on the receiver, green light is blinking and so was the blue. I turned on my bluetooth on my ipaq, discovered the device and then connected to it. Blue light went solid.
Went into tomtom gps, gps tab and in the top drop down i selected "NMEA 0183v2 38400" and in the second drop down i selected "Bluetooth Serial Port COM8"
When i go to the status page in tomtom gps i do not get any co-ordinates or any sat fixes showing on the screen. Whn i load tomtom nav 3 it says gps position unreliable, so its not seeing it. I then thought maybe it needs to be paired so i went back into my ipaq bluetooth manager and paired with the gps using passcode 0000 that all went ok. the gps appeared in my paired devices list. I then reconnected to the receiver and went back into tomtom gps and on the status page there was no change.
My ipaq doesnt seem to be getting any thing from the gps receiver. Green light is flashing away so its got some fix. Can someone who does have it working tell me what settings they have on the gps tab of tomtom gps (the two drop down menus)
This is where i am now, i need urgent help. Please let me know of anything i can try. Thanks in advance! |

It may not be COM8. You need to verify the Bluetooth settings on the iPAQ to see which port is used for the outgoing connection.
TomTom GPS should list two Bluetooth ports - go and try the other one. _________________ Lutz

Thank god for that it's not just me then!
Have had the identical problem and was beginning to think it was my Receiver. I do exactly the same and it won't lock on. It could take up to 15 minutes! This morning I tried deleting the bluetooth connection this morning and connecting through the Bluetooth Manager rather than TomTom Wizard and (touch wood) it is working great.
My settings are as follows:-
BLUETOOTH MANAGER AREA
Accessibility Tab
set to "all devices"
GPS STATUS
Drop Down Box 1 = TomTom Wireless GPS
Drop Down Box 2 = Bluetooth Serial Port COM6
The "Big Tick" is in the "Big Box" too!
I also tend to leave it plugged into the Mains too if I am struggling to get the connection and then disconnect and run from battery when I have a connection.
STARTUP PROCEDURE
Switch on GPS Receiver first to allow for TTFF
Switch on IPAQ
Go to Bluetooth Manager and check connection.
Start Checkpoint (this starts TomTom as well)
Check GPS status - 8 satellites detected but in gray.
Select route
Cross fingers and pray! 8O
Can't help any other than that I'm afraid as I am in the same boat you are.

Forget the last post, twenty minutes on the way home tonight, TWENTY minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have emailed supplier for a replacement.
Checked everything, deleted pairing, re -installed THREE times!
The receiver was showing in the Active Connections part of the Bluetooth Manager.
I will let you know what the outcome is and if they can share any tips on this connectivity problem.

Before you flog it I discovered something by sheer chance today.
Are you using the Silver shield Car Mount or similar?
When I tried to connect to the Receiver when it was in the mount I had no end of difficulty!
When I take the receiver out of the mount it connects within seconds. Maybe there is some type of interference causing the problem of connection. I have also noticed that my Bluetooth headset for my phone acts up lot now. Maybe there is too much electrical interference from the Silver shield Mount thing. Any ideas of a good mount for the Ipaq other than the Silver Shield?

i am using that mount too, but i also tried it when it was out of the mount but still got problems. I bought this thing for my parents to use when they go out and about but if im having this difficulty with it then i think its better with the wired unit. I got the wired unit yesterday and instantly it ran perfectly, no setting to change or naything, fix within 15 seconds. I am beginning to wonder if this whole bluetooth thing is worth it, all that hassle to just save a cable? |

Have also tried a new method of conecting which has had a greater degree of success,
Switch on Ipaq first, then Bluetooth, then switch on the GPS receiver. Go to Bluetooth Manager and connect to GPS receiver from there. It shows the item in the Active connections very quickly.
Have been in touch with supplier who have requested I return receiver and SIlver Mount holder (volume button doesn't work on it!). If I keep getting the connectivity going this way I may keep it. The supplier wants me to return it so they can test it, before replacing it. Thought they might have sent a temporary one to cover this period.

This thread seems to have gone cold, but I still have problem here.
I have had exactly the same problem as the originator had. Interestingly I know the solution but not how to solve it (makes sense?).
Background is I have had to full reset the IPAQ twice, losing all the programs and settings. After the first reset I got to the point of setting up the GPS link to the 9537 and just like others get to NMEA0183v238400 on Com 8. With that setting..no joy. I fiddled around on the IPAQ and for the love of God cannot remember what I did and magically the Com 8 became Com 6 and it worked perfectly.
Now I have reset the IPAQ again, I am stuck on Com 8 and still haven't worked out how I got it to change to Com 6. Can anyone help? |
